All you need is a SCT tuner with custom tunes to turn the EGR function off. My truck will do the exact same thing with the valve unplugged. I have a transmission tune with ano HP added except the EGR valve turned off and am good to go.

Cisco,
yeah man I just got my SCT programer in tha mail yesterday. I am waiting on my custom tunes to be e-mailed to me. I hope this will work, I have talked to at least five different guy all over tha country and they all told me to call Innovation Diesel off tha est coast and get me some custom tunes. I had a bed run in with peformace diesel stuff before, I had bought some stuff (programer, exhaust) form a company outta TN called ETR Diesel performance. Man was that a mistake, I cancled my order and tha sorry low lifes would not give me my money back!!!! I finally had to get Visa to go after ther ass. I eventually got my funds back but took almost a month. So beware of ETR Diesel performace they are crooks!!!!!!! I will post another thred when i get my tunes and see what it does. Thanks for tha input thou.

do you know if the heads were machined? They are NOT TO BE MACHINED! the valvetrain is not adjustable, so if you shorten the heads you LENGTHEN the pushrods thus holding the valves slightly open.

It's absolutely fine to take up to .006 inches off without qurestion though people have taken .008 off without harm.

if your custom tune doesent work check diesel fuel pressure, did heads ,studs and egr bypas on 04 and could only get 22 psi, filters new, idle fuel pressure was 55psi when under load would drop off to 30psi ,replaced pump and 28-39psi,,,,

oh yeh have done many head gasket jobs and machined over .08 with no valve train clearance issues,,,,,,only problems are northern dealer guys gouging block decks with roloc disks, even though they are trained not to do that....must be the flat rate times

Come to find out, there is no such thing as a EPA limp mode on these trucks. It is the calibration from the Ford dealer that robbed my truck of power and fuel economy. There are a number of ways to fix the problem. 1. You can get a FICM off a 03 that has the good old strong running calibration and install it on your truck. The only down side with the early FICM's is that you cant get individual cylinder readings. It will only diagnose from the left bank to the right bank. 2. You can pull your FICM off your truck and send it to Innovative diesel out of maryland and let Eric recalibrate it. This will give you your power back and MPG!!! This will run you about 200 bucks. 3. There is another company that does it out of GA. There name escapes me right now but they only charge a little over a 100 bucks to do recalibrate it also.

My guess is the vgt solenoid is stuck or won't go into the "3rd gear" I think there are 3 steps in the vgt...correct me if i'm wrong...Sounds like 1 and 2 are good, but 3 give you high boost at high rpm...basically like a tall 3rd gear.

Your VGT Turbo vanes can get stuck in almost any position. I suspect the vanes are stuck and you are building boost as exhaust flow increases but the vanes are (or the plate that turns them) is stuck.

Your turbo can easily be reconditioned for very little material cost and will love you for it.

I can send you a turbo guide or recondition procedure if you like.

Here is a pick of MY stuck vanes at 118K. Look closely at the rust shadows and you can see the position they were stuck in. I moved them after disassembly for the pic.

Hey LocoMike,

Maybe I'm missing something, but I see in your PDF the International Parts to get, but not the actual procedure...Or does that come with the kit?

my boost is back to where it was before just by installing a 03 FICM on my truck. I picked up a 03 turbo also but before i install it I am going to get my buddy that is a PSD tech to check it out the internals to ensure this thing is in good condition.

"I barely hit 20 PSI until about 60 MPH "

And your problem is what ????

As long as it pulls great why are you expecting more? The whole purpose of the VGT setup is to give you sufficient boost for the load on the engine - and not a pound more. FYI I get exactly the same as you - 20 - 21 accelerating to 60 - then it settles down to 10 or so. If I put it on cruise I can watch the boost guage go up and down as I go up and down grades - and the tach stays at the same RPM. This is EXACTLY as it is supposed to be. Sounds to me like your chasing a phantom here.

I have never heard this. Mine hits 28psi regularly.
