My have to buy a Duramax or Cummins

Greetings all. This is my 1st post here as I am a new member. I own 3 ford diesel trucks. 2 of them have the 7.3 engine and my baby has the 6.0. The mileage on the 7.3's I can deal with. But why do I only get 14 miles to the gallon in the 6.0? I have tried every setting on my edge, I have changed out the stock intake to an airaid. I haven't touched the exhaust yet. Some of the guys I talk to who own either Duramax or Cummins diesels are getting between 19 and 24 miles to the gallon on the summer blend. Is it time to change trucks? I would love to hear your suggestions on what I can do to improve my mileage or wheather or not to change trucks. Thanks!!

Is the 14 city or hwy? If it is city , that is about right. Kind of low for hwy. Also is your foot heavy? Also consider gear ratio. My '03 has 3;73s, 2wd, gets around 14 city and 17-18 hwy. As far as the isuzu's getting 24, I'm very reluctant to believe these stories. Go to a Duramax forum website and you will see that most claims are in line with the 6.0s. Besides that, "You don't want to buy NO UGLY TRUCK"

Chevy's are about 1000lb lighter than the Fords. A little lower MPG is the price of owning a REAL truck.

Unless you need to get a new truck to replace your 6.0 it would make little sense to trade for a couple of preceived miles per gallon. If you were to figure out the payback on this transaction I would guess the new truck would be long dead and buried before you would recoup the cost. just my 2 cents

We need a little more info,is the 6.0 a Dually, what Gears does the truck have 3.73,4.10 etc,My 05 6.0 with 3.73 gears only gets about 14 in town, about 17 Empty on the Highway,if you can keep your RPM's below 2K (that's 70 MPH with 3.73 Gears) that will help your MPG's,start getting over 2K on the RPM's & mileage starts to drop off considerably,Good luck.

I had a '05 2500HD Duramax LLY 4x4 and it got 18.5-19 MPG MAX hwy completely stock with the stock 245/75R16 donuts on it. I threw some 285/75R16's on it and the mileage dropped to 14-15 average mileage and the power was gone. It wouldn't even shift out of overdrive at 65 MPH after that and all I did was up the tire size a little. I had the truck for all of 3 months and that's just because I didn't wanna beat myself on a trade. Needless to say, I hated it and still don't care for a Duramax. They say Ford is bad and unreliable, but my CHEVY was in the shop atleast 12 times for the short period I had it. Don't do it. They used to be good trucks but they're crap now.
BTW- I get around 17-18 hwy and 15 city in my PSD with 35's and my Bully Dog PMT onthe middle power setting and a straight exhaust. The exhaust made no difference in mileage. For some treason if I drive 75-85 and keep the boost under 10 psi I get awesome mileage. If I run 65-75 it drops considerably. I run B5 and Diesel Kleen to pickup the slack in the new ULSD crappy fuel and it works. Try some different additives and maybe a small amount of biodiesel.

If I wanted betterr MPG I'd buy one of those tiny tire, low to the ground light duty bowties.
