My Tranny went THUMP! and then it was gone????

OKOKOKOK hello all,

I just had something scare the living hell out of me when I was on the way home tonight. I was happily cruising along when the truck started to find third gear it the rpm shot up and then the tranny remembered that its job was to push my truck down the road and BAM! it re engaged. I stopped and turned the truck off. I immediately started the truck again and tried to make my way down the road......BAM! again. All of a sudden the tow haul light started to blink and the truck limited itself to 4th gear and would not shift no matter the rpm. I limped myself home and dropped off the wife and kid.

I immediately went to finding a solution. I chalked up the error to a computer/tranny glitch and put the truck in reverse. I hauled ass down the street "Mater style" and then turned the truck off. I started it again and down the road I went.BAM! Oh crap..... Cue the light bulb, I got an idea!

I tried to see if putting the tranny through all of its paces would clear up the situation. I put the truck in 4x4 low, then 4x4 high and of course 2 wheel. I then proceeded to put the tow haul feature on. Each time I did one of these steps I would bring the truck to speed and stop. What? no BAM!

With the tow haul feature on I gradually got on the accelerator till i could trust that the tranny would not spew its guts all over the floor if it would do its thing. The blinking light went away and the truck was then fine.......

I hope at least the story was entertaining

Any ideas of what the hell it was

Thanks for the help

Cheers

Re: My Tranny went THUMP! and then it was gone????

I would think that it was something like that with these new electronic trannies. I love mechanical stuff. I think there is so much less to go wrong. I don't know as of right now if it will do it again. I am about to jump in the truck and take it down the street. I will follow up with an update.
