Need Help!

I have been looking to buy an F-250. I have never owned a diesel before. I have several friends who own 97's and one friend who has a 05 dodge. I have been told by all not to buy a 03-07 because of the 6.0. Any suggestions?

My 03 6.0 has 76k on it, is 5 yrs old, and does not smoke, puke, or drone. It starts right up, has plenty of power, pulls my trailer great. Its stock! and...

Its also, NOT FOR SALE!

As with any used vehicle, do your due diligence. Have an OASIS run of the truck for factory work, have a carfax run for other stuff. Has it lived in Hurricane areas? Flood damage? Has it been modified? Lifted? Does the previous owner have maintenance records? In my opinion, fancy mods do nothing to add to the value. I can't see wasting money on looks (its a pick-up truck, not a show queen), or performance (the stock truck works just fine, and I don't trust the guy who put the mods on to have any sense not to have thrashed it with them), with the exception of gauge & a 4" cat back exhaust. If done right that can actually help the longevity of the truck.

Just remember, buyer beware.

I have found a few early 03's that still had the 7.3L in them. I have just heard so many neg. things about the 6.0 with blown head gaskets, turbo issues, injectors, and much more. I do not plan on doing anything special to the truck nor do I want to buy one that has a bunch of mods done to it. It will be used as a daily driver and to pull a boat on the weekends.

The 6.0's were hit and miss. Some trucks never had problems, some trucks always had problems. From what I've seen the later 6.0's were alot better though

for the most part 7.3s are better when it comes to reliability, not to say all 6.0 are bad just seems like if you get a bad one you have a BAD ONE.i believe the later 6.0s are better but can still be tempermental especially if adding mods(tuners,etc...).but a motor is a motor they all require service and repair.so you kinda get what you put into it.
