New convert

I recently joined the ranks of power stroke owners. This is my first diesel I have owned as a personal truck. I found an extremely clean and well maintained 2005 F350 Crew Cab Lariat with the only downside is being high mileage. Truck runs and drives like new, everything feels tight and there are no rattles of any kind. Being new to diesels and the Ford family I have a couple of quick questions for the sages.

1. The dealership recommended that I DO NOT run Rotella T but stick with the Motorcraft oil. What do you recommend?

2. How frequently do you suggest changing the fuel filters? My research indicates that at least every other oil change would be wise.

3. For daily use and light towing what is recommended for oil change intervals?

4. Being that the truck is bone stock. What is recommended for the 6.0 as far as mods and add on's? I am a life long motorcyclist and know that even the best stock bikes benefit from certain add ons.

5. Have an intermittent fuel gauge issue. From what I have found out it seems that the fuel sending unit may be going. But it comes and goes.

Guess that is it for now. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

welcome to 6.0 ownership. they are great trucks are you are in the right place.

1. i don't feel qualified to answer what oil to use.
2. i would change oil every 5k, both fuel filters every 10k, per heavy service schedule, and follow that schedule for all other service
3. putting on gauges or and edge insight monitoring device to what EOT/ECT with an EGT probe and a separate fuel pressure gauge. keep an eye on your temps and make every effort to nip any problems in the bud. also add a coolant filter to help keep the oil cooler from degrading. are you still in warranty ? get the insight ASAP if you are, so if there is a problem, the oil cooler / EGR cooler can be replaced on FORD.
4. i can't answer your fuel gauge issue, no knowledge here.

i use motor craft but nothing wrong with rotella but i would stick with what the previous owner has all ways run, oil and filter every 5,000k, fuel filters (both) every 15,000k, and (no chips) programmers and chips is where a lot of trouble starts with the 6.0 but look at it this way the 6.0 dont really need a chip
