New Diesel Owner With A Question Re: Water In Fuel Display

Try to keep this short...

6 week old 2007 F250 diesel.

Question: What type of display should I see when starting the engine as related to the check of the 'water in fuel' system?

I've talked to the service guy, read the manual, and searched Ford's sight.

Service guy says I should see "drops" when key is turned to "start" Another service guy told me I wouldn't see anything unless there was water in the fuel.

Manual says I should see the words "water in fuel" when key is turned to "on."

I don't see anything remotely like any of the above. Is this a simple case of 'no news is good news,' or a lamp burned out, or something unplugged, etc.

Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry...just edited title to better reflect my question.

Re: New Diesel Owner With A Question

on the '05 it depends on what type of display you have. Mine has full display capabilities and the WIF and restricted air filter warning shows up as a message on the message center read out. There is no pre-start display of drops, WIF etc. if you have the full message center (or whatever Ford calls it).

Thanks, jbd.

I don't have the full display - got the 'mini msg center.'

Re: New Diesel Owner With A Question

You should not see the water in fuel warning at start up. This message (when the sensor in the HFCM detects water or malfunctions) appears in the message center (where your odometer readout is located). This is the same place you should see low fuel warnings, trailer brake warnings, etc. There is not a WIF idiot light on the dash.

HTH.

Re: New Diesel Owner With A Question

Thanks, Black05.

I took a flashlight and shined it sideways on all the idiot lights, and didn't see anything related to WIF.

So I'm leaning toward your answer.

Appreciate it.

Re: New Diesel Owner With A Question

Yeah it will tell you wter in fuel on your message center, plain as day. You might not get the message ever but it's a good thing to drain your filter ever so often.
