New to the diesel world...

First off I want to say hello to everyone. I just purchased my first diesel last week. It's a 2004 F250 2WD with 88k. Everything is stock with no mods or any type of work done. I wanted to know what should be done to keep it in tip top running order? I don't do any towing whatsoever. This is my daily driver only. Like I said this is my first diesel so my knowledge on these bad boys are not up to par right now. Thanks in advance to all.

Go to the "search this forum" tab at the top of the 6.0 Power Stroke Engine and Drivetrain page and click and put in the word "maintenance" for a 3 page list of discussion of various topics on the 6.0. 6.0 is a very strong engine but requires critical care for longivity. You can use the search engine to gather a wealth of info on the 6.0 engine. Egr cooler, oil cooler, head studs, ficm, hpop, diagnostics, guages, and many other topics you see as you search and browse will give you lots of good reading and knowledge collected and shared by other owners.

Oh boy, you have a lot to read. The most important thing you can do is not panic. Always remember those who come here with a problem do so out of desperation and those who are not having problems do not post. Therefore, the majority of the threads will point towards people having issues. Just because "so and so" has this issue does not mean you will also. There are a couple forums just like TDS, get to know all of them. There is more information in these forums then what Ford has access too... The most important thing you need to know is to use the severe duty maintenance schedule in the owners manual and always use Motorcraft filters. Try to learn how to do the majority of the maintenance yourself. If you just don't know something ask here i am sure we can help and in most cases point you to a video to show you how to do what you want to do. Lastly, congrads on the truck. It is nice to see a new member with a new truck that doesn't have a half million miles on it. Gives you some time to enjoy it before having to turn a wrench on it.

I'd sell it while you still can and get a gas engine or Cummins.

You'll thank me later.
