My neighbors DODGE is definitaly quicker from a standind start. And he has an automatic. Once I hit 1200 RPM the 6 liter is really fast .

I had recently heard talk of a new flash for manual trucks to improve low end power. Can anyone tell me when this is coming or even if this is true?

Does anyone know anything about this?
I've had a couple of flashes (recently) on my truck. They have gotten better for sure. I'm now waiting for a few tanks of fuel to see if my mileage has really gone up as much as it seems. Even accounting for summer fuel its up a good bit. More back to the MPGs when the truck was new. The low end torque is better but I don't think it will ever match the 7.3 I had. Even with my 6.0 I have no problem getting my 12k lbs 5ver moving so I don't consider it the problem that others might. Once you get it rolling its far superior.
I noticed that everyone else on this thread has an '03 or '04. Mine's an '05. It's not as good off the line as my '02 7.3 was, but it's not dreadful, either. This thing has so much UMPH and decent fuel mileage, I wouldn't consider a re-flash.

Has anyone heard anything as of lately? My dad just purchased a 04 6.0l with a 6 spd and it seems like it dogs really hard down low, like there is almost no power.
Check the boots on the intercooler pipes especially if they are oily, Check the top passengers side for cracks. these are the blue rubber sleves that connect the turboo to the pipe and pipe to the cooler, cooler to intake via pipe also. if they leak kills low end power!
When your dad's truck does build power is it explosive and quick? I ask because sticking vanes or worn vane control ring (unison ring) can make the boost regulation function of the turbo not work and the result is much worse low end.
6 litres will not have Cummins low end torque EVER. Long stoke/bigger bore of the six cylinders is THE recipe for low end torque. The shorter stroke smaller displacement per cylinder V8's are more civilized. It is a choice and not a right or wrong between the two approaches.
