New scanner on the market

Auto Xray has introduced a new scanner called the CodeScout for $159.00. It reads both CAN and OBD-II protocols. Information can be found at:
http://www.autoxray.com/default.htm .

Re: New scanner on the market

Does it do proprietary codes? Does it do data stream? Does it do active command mode?

Code readers sell parts, scan tools fix problems.

Re: New scanner on the market

I don't have those answers, Grampy Jim. I don't sell them, I just got a post card in the mail and passed along the information. Look at the website for your answers. Being it is that cheap I would have to guess NO it doesn't do any active commands.

Re: New scanner on the market

I have been using Ease Diagnostics OBDII scanner for my '97 Jaguar and have been happy with it. ( I do have to look up proprietary codes on another site ) I am thinking about upgrading the tool with software to allow me to use it on my F350. The upgrade will also allow me to load it on laptop running Windows XP. Does anyone have any experience with this tool and the 6.0L ?

A buddy of mine in our club has the Auto Enginuity scan tool. He bought the "enhanced" package, which will do CAN. We stuck it on my truck just to try out the CAN features (and because I wanted to see if there were any stored codes, which there were not). It does do the proprietary codes and data stream (cool feature, by the way). As for active command mode, I am not sure what that is, but if you mean can you do things like a buzz test, contribution test, etc.. then yes it does those as well.

I have to tell ya, watching things like the turbo vane positions, ICP, etc... change as you drove was pretty neat.

Re: New scanner on the market

I use my laptop and the Auto Enginuity software right now and I love it!! If you have a problem and call tech support you get to talk to the guy that desined the sofeware, Jay Horak. He is real nice guy and can fix any issues you have with it. You also get FREE updates he releases about every 2 months. I also have the enhanced version with CAN interface. And it's cheap!! You can check them out at..

Re: New scanner on the market

I also recommend AutoEnginuity and Jay Horak. He's been very helpful since I bought my interface and software. He ALWAYS returns emails and answers your questions.

I noticed Teamroper you mentioned that you could do the cylider contribution test? That's the only option I couldn't find. I found glow plug and injector tests. I would like to run the contribution tests if you could steer me in the right direction.

I use the Ease Diagnostics software with my 6.0 and have used it on many others, I use the Ford Professional Software, it works great and there is a new update coming out soon. My computer has windows XP Pro.

Did you get the Enhanced version??
Have you gotten the latest update??

Go to his web site and go to downloads, the open the update list (release notes) and look around, I think that was one of the latest updates but I could be wrong

Re: New scanner on the market

Yep. Running Ford enhanced. I can do cyl. contribution for 7.3's but the option isn't there for 6.0's. Am running the most recent version - just updated last week.
