i'm a little new to BIG diesels. i just got a 2005 F350 Diesel. The truck has 157,000KM or 97,555 Miles. good condition. about a month ago, when i got it, i got all of the filters/fluids changed. I got it mainly to pull our 34' travel trailer and other toys. i do drive it to work every day roughly 10 miles each way. just in the last few days i noticed that when the motor is cold it seems that the turbo doesn't spool up as quick. is this normal? also, when this happens I get a little puff of very light almost baby blue like smoke. once the turbo kicks in tho the smoke dissapperas (it really is very faint but nontheless noticable). i have a remote starter and when leaving work i start it and let it warm up for 5 to 10 minutes as i pack up and it doesn't seem to that but it is warmer than in the mornings. any ideas before i take it back to the dealer to look at?
thanks!!!
Andre
the smoke issue is due to the turbo not spooling up yet. so that is just a syptom of the other issue which is your delay in turbo response. Mine is a 08 so not sure about that issue.

Letting your truck idle cold in the morning is not a good idea. The temp of the engine is insufficient to completely burn the fuel being injected into the cylinders, and this excess fuel washes the oil off of the cylinder walls causing premature cylinder wear. Search "cylinder wash" or "wet stacking" on this forum. The best way to warm it up is drive it, keeping your boost below 20, and your rpm below 2000 at least until your temp gauge gets up out of the cold range.

Thanks for the info. Torino73, is it normal for the truck to be SO loud when it is driven cold? The noise doesn't bother me, i just want to make sure it is normal. It almost seems that there is no power, holds first 2 gears really loong before it shifts...no smoke or other issues when i do that. Once it warmed up everything is normal.
not sure about the 05 but normally the reason why it is louder in the morning because fuel is sent prematurely to warm up the engine faster causing a louder "knock"

My 6.0L is always loud when it is cold, after it warms up sufficiently it will quiet down. I've always wondered what the computer is changing to cause that, whether it's injector pressure, timing, etc or what. Also, when it quiets down t's very abrupt when the change occurs, generally I've noticed it after driving for a bit and you let off the pedal and the idle noise is about 1/2 of what it was previously, like someone threw a switch. Also at that point mine seems to spool up faster.

Yeah they are all loud in the morning, just wait til dead of winter! Also the cold tranny shift strategy is an emisions issue. They want it to rev out a little harder and farther before it shifts so it has a better chance of buning more of the fuel completely when its cold and or heat up sooner. Mine does that every morning, but not in the afternoon when its hot out.
