newest problem...

Well I finally decided to do something about my lemon 2003 6.0. Ive got a couple friends at the dealer that are working on getting me a new 2005 or 2006. But Ive still got to deal with it for a while longer.

The newest problem is the accelerator pedal not working. I know these trucks have the fly by wire throttles but I dont think thats the problem. It only does it on the highway when im under load. Like at 70mph while towing or at 80mph going uphill. The truck will be cruising fine but when I step on the pedal the truck does not speed up. Instead it almost bogs like a gas motor would when its getting too much fuel and the truck slows down a little bit. When I get off of the pedal the truck will slow down fine but will not accelerate. I leave it alone for a few seconds at a coast and the problem will go away. Its only does it every now and then, I cant seem to figure it out. Ive never heard of anything like this before? anyone have any ideas?

Re: newest problem...

Does it seem to smoke alot? Have you seen the SES light turn on? There are many things that could cause this symptom. Need to see if any codes are present. Sounds like you could have vanes in turbo stuck. They can be intermittent, and will give a severe loss of power.

Re: newest problem...

Yes the truck blows white smoke all the time during start up but not while this particular problem is happening. Yes my check engine light comes on all the time while towing. every time accually but resets itself in a day or so. I had a surging problem while towing with a woosh woosh sound a while back and a tech told me the vanes in the turbo were stuck, also. Could these two separate problems be from the same thing? stuck vanes?

Re: newest problem...

I also agree with the vanes sticking. You see them more when towing due to the heat/expansion issue. The out of state flashes cause the the check enigne light to stay off but yours will leave a p2263 code most likely. Have it checked for any codes. They may just put the ebp sensor on it at first since it is not actively sticking. If the code reappears or the same problem. Hook up the trailer and have them monitor it when it happens or drive it with the vdr. (flight recorder)
I would also say that since you are getting out of yours. The dealer you are working with isn't that good otherwise you should ba made happy. forddoes not want to buy these back all of the time and have started a team at the hotline who calls and works with the tech to make sure teh truck is done and done right.

Re: newest problem...

If you are getting the "whoosh" noise, just about certain it is the turbo vanes sticking. As jetski stated, you will have code P2263, P0299, or an egr code will also set that is related, P0404. The tech can determine whether the exhaust pressure sensor is reading correctly by monitoring ebp, map, and baro...they should also be within .5 psi. Also monitor vgtdc, ebp, and mgp. If vgtdc is commanding 15% and ebp is above 50 psi, and it is overboosting, will need to check vanse on turbo for free movement.
