Well checked my coolant today and my nitrite level was at 300ppm.So should I get some VC8? I read some older posts and they said no, but I know this was before this bulletin and now Ford knows of the problem. My question is are you guys adding the VC8 to your coolant if the levels are low? Thanks for any comments.
How are you guys adding it also, do you just put it the degas bottle??

MY..never tested mine, but will do. Curious...have u ever flushed/all new coolant since new? Apparently adding VC8 raise's nitrite level for protection, but wondering does it also extend life of coolant or n/a? Im due for complete flush/refill, but wanna know my n. level 1st.
Amazing getting this notice NOW! I'm also wondering just like old CR song "what goes on behind closed doors"?
300 - 600 ppm nitrate add 32oz (2 bottles of VC8) per the letter. You are done. Just keep and eye on it at the stated intervals in the letter. Below 300ppm change the coolant after the acid wash, above 800ppm do nothing. Good luck.
Yep just pour it into the degas bottle. Where did you take your sample? You pulled it from the radiator drain valve, right? If you dipped the strip into the degas bottle then your reading may not be correct. Make sure you order the VC-8 off the web. The dealers want way too much money for it.
Rock Doctor -- I have seen the instructions to test from other than the overflow bottle (this I can understand where the overflow bottle does not regularly mix with the coolant in the engine block or radiator). With the degas bottle being part of the closed system where the coolant constantly recircualtes/flows, why would the degas bottle not be an appropriate place to test the coolant for nitrite levels?

I don't know that is what they said in the set of instructions. I guess they don't consider the degas bottle to be part of the active system (i.e. there isn't constant flow in and out) and thereby may not be as accurate as a sample taken from the bottom of the rad. i don't know... I haven't been able to get my strips yet so i haven't tested mine yet.

Once you install a coolant filter there is definitely a constant flow and that is what I was thinking of in my last reply.
Yeah, I drained a liitle coolant out of the pet****.I saw the actual TSB that the techs got, and it too says not to test out of the degas bottle.I got my VC8 from a warehouse that we deal with. They also supply dealers, they sell Motorcraft and AC Delco parts.I work at a bodyshop and get stuff for cost it was $9.00 for the 2 bottles of VC8.
