I'm an Amsoil user and believer and I'm even getting tired of the Amsoil pixy dust BS from these specific guys. Jeez.....if you want to use it that's fine. It's a personal choice. Just don't pull out the smoke and mirrors and try to BS your way around here.
UOA tells it all with the 6.0. Extend on your truck if you wish, it's your right. Repeated UOA tells me it's not the end all. It's also moot point talking about comparing apples to apples if UOA shows no benefit of Amsoil over Rotella. I used names instead of synthetic vs. conventional since that's my usage and my UOA's.
I still have a shelf full of various Amsoil products in the garage, just not for the 6.0 right now because it does not make any sense at all. I may again one day if I decide to spend the extra $50 per change just for some warm and fuzzy feeling.

When I look at the dipstick at 5K it just looks like it needs changing. Sooty ya know.

You do realize that the color of oil has nothing to do with how dirty it is, dont you?
[/ QUOTE ]
I did not know that. I thought if it was getting black it was dirty. I dont know what the lubrication properties are at that point but I just thought it was good practice to change it.
I specifically mentioned dino oil in the original post because I am not really interested in the super extended interval, bypass filtration blackstone reportin' oil thing. Its a truck and I drive it. I do however want it to last a long time. I just dont want to make it my life's passion. I have a boat to play with and dirt bikes to ride....
Just to add, when he said "You do realize that the color of oil has nothing to do with how dirty it is, dont you?" that applies to diesel's not gassers. A Diesel motor will have dirty looking oil as compared to gas.

Sorry, but "go hogs go" is correct. Gasser's can have oil go dark and yet test to be perfectly fine and still able to continue in service. Oil going dark isn't just because of getting dirty. It also involves chemical reactions, and heat.
Amsoil is about $6.25 a quart. and Schaffers 9000 5w40 which is certified for the 6.0L is about $3.65 per quart. This is when you buy 3ea 6 gallon cases. I split it with a friend. I can do 2 oil changes with 1 gallon left over.
I have asked Idiabuse for his oil samples at 25K in an 6.0L to back up his claims but as of yet he has none. Big surprise there
He is the most vocal Amsoil advocate and the one with the least amount of facts to back up his mouth.
I personally doubt there is any oil that will last 25K in an 6.0L PSD. I think 20K is pushing it and 15K is about the real world max. I will let you know more as I put more miles on my Schaffers 9000. It looks like it may go out to 20K but it is too early to tell just yet.
If Amsoil can go to 25K and Schaffers 9000 can only go to 15K the Schaffers is still cheaper than the Amsoil. If Amsoil can go that long then it is even more $$ than Schaffers.
Use what you like. Have an UOA done and know what YOUR engine is doing. Then you can set up and OCI that works with YOUR engine.

First, why would you buy oil by the quart when you're filling 3 gallons?
Also, Amsoil is not that expensive unless you pay full pop retail. I paid about $17 a gallon. It may not be the cheapest still, but you don't have to pay $25 as stated in another thread.
That said, there seem to be a lot of people using Scheafers which does not seem to shear near what others do. The common thread in that and anohter one (can't recall) is the high level of moly. Sure seems to hold up well. In most places, it's finding it that seems to be the real challange.
