Oil Cooler Warranty ??

I have a 04 F350 83,000 miles and have purchased the 7 yr 200,000 Ford EW. Also installed a coolant filter 2 years ago at 51,000 miles.

I have no overt engine symptoms, but I installed a Insight OBD monitor and can now read ECT and EOT.

Pulling 14,000 # 5th wheel up a 6 percent 7 mile grade, I get ECT 208 to 217 and EOT 239 to 242. The differences ranging 23 to 26 degrees.

On a hilly/flat road I get ECT of 192 to 207 and EOT of 229 to 239. The differences ranging from 22 to 31 degrees . The greatest difference was on tip outs when the EOT are catching up to the cooler ECT.

On a flat road ECT average 195 and EOT average 215 for a 20 degree difference.
TSB 09-8-3 requires a cooler replacement if the difference exceeds 15 degrees. But htis TSB is for a loss of coolent. I have not lost any coolant.

Given I have no overt symptoms, has anyone had a cooler replace under similar conditions or does any tech think Ford would replace the cooler given these readings ?? Bob

I cant speak from experience concerning the dealer working on the truck just by the EOT and ECT... but those numbers def have to big of a difference. I would print out the TSB and take it to the dealer and have them check the EOT and ECT while driving it to show them its obviously a problem. At the very least you get it documented in their system that you complained. At least you have the warranty to cover for awhile....

FYI my 07 with my Edge Insight always shows a difference of about 7-9 degrees on the highway. It will just barely climb over 10 degrees difference for a short time when towing a medium load (5,000 - 7,000lbs).

Thanks for the response. I have had the coolant filter on for 2 years and 34,000 miles. I guess I did not put the filter on soon enough or maybe being 3 years older does not help.

I would just bring it in a say you are losing coolant, the TSB will direct them to the proper repair.
