Oil Filters

While at Wally World a few minutes ago, I decided to check out the 6.0 oil filters. The Fram's($15 and change) are now made here in the USA, but look like the one made in Germany except for the shrink wrap. They had one box that looked like it had been there for a while. The part # was put on with a sticker, and the box said "Made in Korea", but the filter inside was shrink wrapped and said "Made in Germany". I don't think anyone is shrink wrapping any more even the Motocraft is not shrink wrapped.

Yesterday I saw the Puralator filters are now 2-piece. The filter has the felt washers on both ends and the part that clips to the filter cap is separate so the filter goes in either way then the top fits into the filter. Later I was O'Reilley's and they had the same filter in their brand for $9.99. I don't see any problem in using these filters. They sure looked better that the new WIX.

Re: Oil Filters

I agree we shouldn't bargain hunt for filters, but we should be open to the possibility that some others are as good as OEM. I'm trying the Purolator PureOne filters now. I've used Purolators for years with great success, these seem to have very good filter media (regular purolator looks similar to OEM), and they are comparably priced to the Motorcraft filter found at Wal-mart.

Re: Oil Filters

amsoil makes the best 6.0 filter available, just visually comparing there isn't anything that comes close, 98.70% filter efficiency@15 micron per iso 4548-12.
good for 15/25k diesel application used with amsoil aka moose milk

Re: Oil Filters

Here we go again, another post Amsoil-hijacked. Idiabuse, I appreciate that you've found a product you like, but maybe you can temper your posts with something different from time to time. Regarding filters, I won't doubt Amsoil has a good one, but there is no proof its the best. The one I'm using also claims 98%. The OEM one is very good I undestand as well. No full flow filter should go 15/25k miles, especially comparing the ease to change versus the risk.

Show the folks in the 6.0 forums something real - you start driving this motor, run Amsoil in it at 25k change intervals, and then when you have 200k on the engine, let us know.

Re: Oil Filters

I have purchased and used oem 6.0 oil filters and amsoil filters, seeing both oem/aftermarket then an amsoil filter anyone that has two good working eye balls and half a brain can tell wich filter has superior cababilities from ten feet away.

First let me say I respect you opinion on technical advise that I have read being the lurker I am on this site but I must say as for you opinion on how others shop Not all of us are techs or employees and can get them at cost (20.00 from ford) most are quoted the usual 34.50 retail from the stealership parts counter. I myself can purchase at employee price but I will say I have purchased from checker before because of convenience. If you are doing your maint like ford recommend then that 12,000 retail (6,000 + or - 1,000 employee) high performance diesel engine should be ok with the other filters. So it is not crazy it is being consumer smart.
All the guy asked was are they the same and how they compare to the wix not what is the better bargain

Ok, I will correct him. It should be a EAO88, not a EAA88. They did redesign the filters for the 6.0. It first started out as the same filter everyone else bought. It was not a synthetic media filter then. When AMSOIL switched to the synthetic media, AMSOIL designed there own filter. They actually most recently changed the design again to allow better flow for people using a By-pass system, and retaining the stock oil filter and plumbing through the filter cap and oil fill cap.

"The one I'm using also claims 98%."

When you claim that the one you are using also claims 98%, at what micron is it filtering 98% of? Is it 15 micron, or 25 micron. With the AMSOIL filter, the are the only company that I know of the claims 98.7% at 15 microns.

I am not tring to Hijac this post, just trying to clear some stuff up!

Re: Oil Filters

Purolator only specifies the 98%, not at what micron level. Not really wanting to debate who has better filters, as my point was that we need to be open to a few good filters in addition to the OEM and that Amsoil isn't automatically the hands down winner. I run their gear lube in my truck, but will not entertain drain intervals beyond 5k and thus their oil is not a cost effective solution for my needs. I do believe that at 5k intervals I'm getting very good protection and performance using Delo400. But, I'll see what becomes available when the new CJ-4 oils hit the streets
