Oil Leak?????

on my 2nd 6.0 truck. The 2004 died and I traded in for a 2006 6.0.

My 2006 has 83k, running like a champ..but has an oil leak. It leaks on my concrete driveway and parking stall at work.

The oil spots are not wet..(like a 1983 Harley Davidson) just stains.

Is the oil leak covered under the 100k Drivetrain Warranty?

The drips are more from the passenger side of the truck. Definalty wet underneath.

I'm planning on keeping this truck for at minimum 200k and longer. I'll be purchasing the Ford Extended Diesel 200k Warranty (just for insurance).

I'm looking for opinions.....

Thanks

Rick

Thought You'd Be Interested In This..........

Sincerest Greetings,

I just went through this with my truck, and here is what I've learned from this AWESOME forum:

1). Most, if not all, oil leaks on this 6.0L engine eventually show up at the bellhousing.

2). The most common places for oil leaks on the 6.0L are:
*CAC Tubes.............about 21% of all leaks
*ICP Sensor.............about 16% of all leaks
*CAM or Crank Position Sensor.....about 14% of all leaks
*Glow Plug harness.........about 14% of all leaks
*Front Camshaft Seal......about 8% of all leaks
*Bedplate Seals.......about 5% of all leaks
*HPOP cover......about 4%
*Oil Cooler..........about 4%
*Front/Rear Engine cover or Rear Crank/Main Seal....about 3%

3). The Dye & Light test should be used to confirm location of oil leak

My leak does not even make it to the ground................it's just a very small drop of oil that is present all the time.

I got this information from the Diesel Technician Society website

Hope this helps you out a bit...........I'll also copy you on what the diagnosis was for my leak and what the dealership did for me

Here's What Happened In My Situation..........

As per my last post, I thought you'd like to read about what they did to repair my leak:

Gentlemen,

It's not very often that I see people giving out "atta-boys" to dealerships on forums like these, but I really would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to tell you guys just how AWESOME things went for me. The people at Santa Margarita Ford (Southern CA) were simply phenomenal! From the service writer to the diesel tech, I found the service rendered to be OUTSTANDING. As I reported earlier, after the initial diagnosis of "bedplate leak", and subsequent confirmation with the dye & light test, they took the time to field all my questions. Dropped it off on Saturday morning, and they were done on Tuesday afternoon. As I sit here looking at the work order for what was actually done, I am truly grateful..................get a load of what these guys did:

1). Replaced faulty bedplate seals
2). Replaced rear cover seal
3). Replaced rear main seal
4). Replaced front cover seal
5). Replaced front cover gasket
6). Replaced upper & lower oil pan gaskets
7). Replaced cam & crank sensor o-rings
8). Replaced degas bottle & cap
9). Replaced all belts & hoses (radiator & heater)
10). Replaced thermostat
11). Flushed engine & added new coolant
12). Washed the truck prior to me picking it up

They totally met & exceeded my expectations!

I can only hope that if any of you guys get that dreaded diagnosis of "bedplate leak", someone will take great care of you the way Santa Margarita Ford took care of me!
