Oil Leak Blown Head Gasket????????

Well it finally happened....my beloved 03 is in the dealership having the head gasket replaced. I arrived in reno to find oil dripping from the back of the engine. It didnt loose enough oil go below the dipstick mark but lowered a little. However i didnt notice any performance losses on the way home, ran great. However the dealership sais that the head gasket is leaking and that they are going to replace both. 74K on the milage so its covered. Is this a common problem??? Or has anyone else had experience with this??

02/03 Build date
74K milage-first problem
Current on all flashes (Shots..hehe)

Re: Oil Leak Blown Head Gasket????????

if you have a rear mounted icp sensor on your 03 im almost positive that where your oil leak is, i havent seen too many of the headgaskets leaking oil, but what the hell, get em changed. are you going to upgrade to the arp headstuds?

Re: Oil Leak Blown Head Gasket????????

I'm surprised your not blowing coolant. Often, when the head gasket is breached, the coolant system gets pressurized when you get on her, and it spews out the reservoir. Any white spots around the coolant reservoir? Ever smell antifreeze?

If not, I bet your head gaskets are fine and it is the ICP leak that PaCemkr mentioned. If you have any plans for extra power, do the ARP or other suds instead of stock bolts. Small price to pay up front, trust me!

Re: Oil Leak Blown Head Gasket????????

mine is blowing antifreeze, just started while pulling the trailer up a hill. i would have expected power loss if the head ggasket was leaking, but i didn't get any so i suspected the EGR cooler was causing it. i unplugged the EGR and it stopped blowing antifreeze, also i got another 60 miles to the tank in mileage. so i'm hoping it's only the EGR, what do you guys think?
