Oil Pressure 90+ PSI when cold?
When the engine is cold it will make about 90 PSI of Oil Pressure at 2,000 to 2,500 RPM's when cold. This seems high to me!
The relief valve at the Low Pressure Oil Pump is supposted to be set for 75 PSI I thought.
The pressure reading is taken off the Oil Filter Cap at the top. I bought an aftermarket billet cap tapped at the top. I have a Autometer Electric Oil Pressure gauge. It does make oil pressure almost immediately after a cold start, which is about 60 PSI at a cold idle.
After the motor warms up a bit to about 100* or so, the oil pressure is more normal to me. It runs about 75PSI (at 2,000 RPM'S)then.
When hot it runs 50 PSI above 1,500 RPM's and about 20 PSI at hot idle.
I run 5W-40 Oil, and have observed the same readings with Delo 15W-40.
Is the cold reading too high?
