Exclamation Oil Report - Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

Just got in an oil report from blackstone today.
Everythign good except high lead content.
Anyone have any suggestions on what oil to run now? Stay with the amsoil?
File should be attached.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the high lead?

Thanks in advance!

yup its your bearings, even your blackstone confirms that.i run good ol rotella, never had an issue, you could switch to a synthetic which would offer better protection.

Could be your bearings or it could be the oil itself. I did see an oil report that showed higher then normal lead and it was an Amsoil oil product. I would change the oil and send in a sample after 5K and see what it looks like. Maybe even run a different band a couple of cycles and see how they look.

How many miles do you have on your 06? Been towing alot? Any other reason bearing would wear out so fast?

No towing, truck has about 70k on it now but alot of idle time as well. Alot of highway shoulder stop and go on down the highway for work. Run from a dead idle to WOT to merge into traffic ect...

I have the bypass filter system on it as well. I used to run just Rotella in it with no bypass, maybe I need to run a cycle of that see where things end up.

The report also showed that the viscosity was low and Blackstone even mentioned it. That indicates that the oil is shearing-breaking down. If you did change the oil at this time I would run it for now and see how it does next change. If it does it again you may need to change it sooner or find a different oil.

Is this your first run with Amsoil? If so, you need to use it for another 2 oil change intervals and see if the lead # trend down. I would pull an analysis at 5,000 miles and go from there.

None of your other wear metals were high, so don't push the panic button yet.

The 6.0l Powerstroke is an oil shearing monster! Usually the 40 wt. oil is sheared to a 30 wt. oil by 3,000 miles, it then tapers/shears slowly after the oil is at a 30 wt. I'm actually impressed with this oil analysis, because all wear metals are below universal averages, and the viscosity of the oil is just under a 40 wt. oil. (it is a high or thick 30 wt.)

Have Blackstone run this sample again. They are notorius for "off" readings. This may be a bad reading by Blackstone. Again, this is lead # is fishy because all the other wear metals are low.

Usually if you have a problem Iron, Lead, Copper, etc. are ALL high!

Thanks for the input on this. This was in fact the first run with Amsoil. I am running the Amsoil single bypass system as well with the Eab110 filter. Sampe was taken after a long highway run, with engine hot.
The only thing I did was a full flow filter change at about 6500 miles.
The bypass system and new oil were all installed at the same time.

I ordered up another 4 gallons of it again, with a new bypass filter, so I was intending on dropping and replacing and then run another sample in 5k.

I did send off an email to blackstone to question the find on the lead .

Otherwise, I was hoping to continue to run this oil as long as I could.

Where else could the lead come from?

You don't need to change the bypass filter yet. I don't know if you intended to.? You could dump the "old oil" out and refill the filter again with clean oil.

I'm glad you are running the Amsoil oil/Amsoil bypass setup. I just installed an Amsoil bypass on my truck. I want to eventually use Amsoil Oil in my truck.

I'm currently running Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40. I'll pull a sample at 4,000 miles or so and send it in. I know it shears way down at 5,000 miles.

I bought 12 gallons of the CJ ratedSynthetic Rotella for $15 per gallon at Autozone a few months ago on sale.

I'd take their recommendation and change the oil...... And if you bought the bypass for the purpose of extending your drain intervals, you are gonna be disappointed.... Amsoil is no better than any other oil at resisting shear in this engine....... Believe me, I know...... I ran it for 75K and found I could not go beyond the normal drain intervals due to shearing....

Yea I hear that. But with the way my business has suffered from the slow-down I plan on keeping this truck for a long time! I was hoping to extend the drain interval but, if that does not happen, the bypass should still help reduce some wear.

What oil out there does not shear? I have read on here that it is Redline and Schaffers. But how much better is the shear reistance over the amsoil?

Also how long can you run the bypass filter, I think every other oil change or full flow replacement?

I have run the Schaeffer's 9000 5W-40 for 30,000 miles with a oil change interval of 5-6,000 miles. It is more shear resistant. My lead #'s started climbing with the last 3 oil changes, and I went back to using Shell Rotella 5W-40. I'll pull an oil sample in a few weeks and post how this is doing.

You can really run the by-pass filter over 15,000 miles. You'll know when it for sure needs changing when it stops getting hot. That means your flow is starting to drop and signal's a filter change. Since this is a by-pass filter this won't really hurt anything.
