Okay.....here is an update on my leaking situation. Two weeks before turkey day the dealer put 2 bottles of dye in it and then I took it home and drove the crap out it, took it back in on the 30th and it has been there ever since. Apparently it was leaking so bad that it looked like a crime scene with the blacklight, so the mechanic still had no idea where it was coming from. Now get this Ford would not let him take the engine apart to see where it was coming from, they only allowed him to remove the turbo. That didn't help and he suspected it was the heads (yea), so I found out yesterday that yes it is the head gaskets and of course the culprit is the head bolts. So I get a call this morning and the service advisor told me that Ford denied the claim to fix the head gaskets, they want him to replace the glow plug harness and then put different color dye in it and run a smoke machine to see if it is still leaking. Even thou the diesel mechanic knows it is the heads, Ford doesn't trust his judgement, so now there is a Ford engineer coming out to tell the mechanic how to fix it. I am soooooo freakin mad, I am about to blow a gasket myself. So now I wait like I have for the past week and a half, but I have a feeling if the head gaskets get fixed that they won't replace the stretched head bolts, so I am going to purchase some ARPhead bolts if they don't replace them.

Anyone have a similar experience or can anyone vouch forthe ARP head bolts?

DG..its a bummer I agree, but u gotta grin & bare it best you can. Cant sidestep what FMC is dictating, but hopefully your tec. & fmc rep. put their heads together & fix it. Mean time...

Head bolts arent reusable. Studs are, but my dealer/shop wouldnt install due to warr. still in effect at time my repairs done. Didnt drip oil, just water. Good luck!

btw...my turbo, headbolts/h.g. repair still ok today. Still one o. leak never got fixed, but its not a bad dripper (so far) I suspect its bedplate?

DG - Just chiming in to wish you a speedy recovery. I had a oil leak diagnosed to one of the HPOP fittings on the topside of the engine. It was a slow leak which was pooling in the engine valley and running down the backside of the engine. Thankfully they correctly diagnosed my leak and fixed it right the first time. I've had no leaking since. I'm certianly no expert at all on these engines, but wouldn't faulty head gaskets also result in leaking coolant or a cross contamination situation (mixing of oil/coolant)?

Yeah, get the studs, after theyr in you will never have to worry about blown HG again. Thats a wierd deal with the Ford guys, but if you still have warranty left they should fix it and put the studs in while their at it. They did for me.

That is the thing, it is not the dealership......it is the higher ups at Ford. Apparently the mechanics have to get approval to do the work, I guess it is kindof like having to get a PO# before you can purchase anything.

The guys at the dealership have been great, I even have the one guys cell number, so it is not them at all.

I was thinking the same thing, I read an article in Diesel World about the whole 6.0 things that was written by Banks. I remember them saying that coolant would be mixed with the oil if it was a head gasket problem, I am going to ask them about that today, since that was never mentioned.

I told the service advisor at Ford that I was going to buy those studs and have them replace them when they put the engine back together. I guess I would rather pay $500 now then thousands later. Yeah, the whole service shop is completely in ahhh about the whole thing, the person I feel bad for is the mechanic, if I was him I would felt like Ford just kicked me in the balls for not trusting my judgement.

DG..if h.g. do get replaced & studs installed be sure you have clear understanding with tec. (for argument sake) if anything should go wrong with this type repair while still under warr. will it still be covered.? I doubt tec. will list on warr. r/o..studs installed because not approved by fmc. Anyhow, good luck & hopefully fixed soon.

Save your self some money on the oil filter. Ford use's Fram for there Motorcraft filter. So when at the store looking for an oil filter the Motorcraft and Fram filter are the same.

Are you sure about that? I was under the Impression that Racor built the filters for Motorcraft and International
