My 2004 250SD 6.0 PS (bone stock)is approaching the 36K mark and so far it has had zero issues with any problems I often see in this post, never even seen the dealer since purchase. Regular maintenance done in my driveway. Should I continue my good fortune and keep it away from dealer and their so-called fixes and re-flashes past the 3/36 until something happens or take it to them and have all recalls and other issues looked at before the warranty expires? I know engine and other is for 100K, but I do want the impression of keeping up with maintenance to be documented if something should happen..Thanks for the input and good luck with those having chronic problems
By posting this you are looking luck in the eye and laughing . I would not have been so bold to make a statement like that and chance luck. Hope your luck continues with you. I would not touch a thing if not broken .
My '04 was great up till about 65k. Took it in because I had a SES light and the recalls. They have reflashed again because they said 1st didn't take right. Now, with 75k, I believe my turbo is gone. No power at all and lots of black smoke until close to 2k rpm. Going in once again.......I used to be very happy

With that said, if you do take your truck in for any sort of warranty work, the dealer will perform the latest reflashes and or any recalls. Unless you live in one of those states they will not issue tags unless you have certain emission related reflashes done. In that case it's usually for reflash, no tags.
I took my truck in for the ICP recall way back when.... They never reflashed it because my dealer "didn't like the reflash". Later I took it in for a leaky rear diff, they performed the battery grounding post recall and something else that didn't involve connecting to the OBD II port. Then I had to have the 03E03 reflash done or the Cal DMV wouldn't issue me new tags. Bye bye pilot injection and real tow haul mode.
My 03 have a little over 50,000 now and the engine is still running strong. I think I got one of the good ones too. Check back when I have 75,000 miles. But now I've just been notified by the DMV that I have to get the EBP sensor reflash done or no tags for 07. Oh well, I have until Feb of next year to put that off.

So should we be looking at just swapping (do I dare say, Duramax)? I hate to even ask the question but my step dad drives between 30 and 40k a year for his job and can't have engine troubles be in the back of his mind. This engine has to last between 200,000 and 300,000 miles. He got 220 out of his expedition 5.4 with only a new water pump and oil changes every 3-5k until the dealer punched a hole through the engine block while changing the oil. We bought from a different dealer if you were wondering. I just hope he is complaining about it nothing.

I have 58K and no problems. The only work have ever had doen was the # 3 injector @ 45K or so. Best truck I've ever had.
I know what you mean, after reading about all of the problems folks seem to have with their trucks it makes me nervous about mine. I bought mine used last year with 7K miles on it and after put another 10K on it so far no problems, although I just discovered what I think might be bed plate leak so we will see. It has me afraid to do any mods because of what might happen. I planned on this truck lasting at least 10-15 years but you never know. Especially with low sulfur diesel coming out, who knows how it will change our trucks. Best of luck to you and here's to hoping that your 6.0l continues to run strong.
