Opened up ficm, Is it pooched?

Hey guys, pulled my ficm this morning. Got the case apart and noticed this. Corner is melted off of whatever this thing is. Also had a little piece of what looked like metal hanging off it. Is this thing pooched now?

Shure looks like it has picked up a little heat there you may have hurt it.
I am not shure how necessary that insulate/sealant goop is.

Might want to give Ed at ficmrepair.com and see what he says. It might be salvageable..

I'm fairly certain he's going to tell me to ship it to him, which is useless to me.

Thank you for your response FMTRVT, I don't suppose you could tell me how to repair? Maybe just replace the burn piece?

H..only DIY ficm repair info I've read about here isn't what your asking about. If shipping useless, then local dealer may be your only option? Good luck on outcome!

If it's not repairable, my local diesel shop will let me have a new one for $650.

I don't know the FICM well but that looks like the amplifier (power supply) can he replace it with the international half shell part? http://www.powerstrokediesel.com/doc...S_04-11_r5.pdf
That should be the section under the black plastic. I don't think you should consider just replacing the single chip. The whole part should be less then $300... Search in TDS for FICM Half Shell for more threads. If you really need to go cheap Dorman also makes their version. http://www.dormanproducts.com/digita...Module_Dor.PDF and you probably can order it from your local auto parts store. I would try international first, they seem to be the cheapest on some items and then move on to the Dorman part.

I bought one from Rock Auto, a Dorman replacement board for about $150. Before I got it installed I sold it to a friend in dire need, straightened his truck right out. Guess I will have to order another one. I have a fresh discount code for Rock if anyone needs it.

Well i got the new ficm in, Runs better. Doesn't buck like a horse when the converter locks up anymore. However i've still got a miss at idle and P0278 code still (#6 cylinder contribution/balance) Should i start looking at replacing an injector now?
