Man is this thing ever running great. Today's average mpg is down to 16.something at just over half a tank, but that includes climbing and decending Engineer from Silverton to Lake City. Previous two fill-ups have been 20.3 and 20.8, all on paved stuff in the Rockies. Guess the thin air isn't just good for the soul. 22k miles now - and she's better than ever.

The tighter switchbacks required three point maneuvers, but no big deal otherwise. Just took my time and looked around a lot more than we usually do when motorcycling big Rocky Mountain dirt passes. I let the tires down to 30 front and 20 rear, for an equal amount of visual squat (aired back up in Lake City), and everything worked great. Just chugged up and over.
BTW, I stopped at the highest point up there and along with my PSD (and the usual handful of Jeeps/ATVs) was a longbed, crew cab Dodge dually. Now THAT's a lotta truck to get up there. Nice rig, too, that big Cummins, but then again - I love 'em all.

I and several members of my 4x4 club just came back from the All-4-Fun event held at Silverton. We went up Engineer Pass, along with several others. Amzing how full size vehicles get up some of those tight trails.
Some of our pics are in the "Trail Pics" link on our web page. Mine aren't up yet, since he hasn't gotten to posting all 1700 pics yet!
Great Picture! I've been up that pass on a Kawasaki Prairie. I would not attempt to go up that pass in my PSD. You are a braver man than me. Way to go.
I took my truck over Ophir pass going to Telluride while I was at school in Durango. Very short pass, but pretty exhilirating. Beautiful country out there.

Yea, Cinnamon and a ton of others over the years, but it's all been on two wheels. I only did Engineer in the truck because I needed to be in Lake City and didn't feel like doing 550 again up through Ouray, Montrose, 50 east, 149 south. Anyway, I know Engineer pretty well and while it's steep in a few places and the switchbacks are tight, I had the time to take things easy and safe, so no worries.
Sure would be fun in a Jeep!

Hey I'm currently with friends in Littleton and helped out by bringing their new quad home for them. A very cool Polaris 800efi, that filled up the bed nicely! Pic here and here. They're looking forward to exploring the dirt in their home state on it. I can see why!
