P0266 story

I thought I would post my story from the last week.

It all started with intermidant rough idel and no power. It also was not shifting until high RPM's. I pulled the codes, and the only one was a P0266 - Cylinder #2 contribution/balance fault. I cleared the fault, and as soon as it acted up, the fault was back again.

So in trying to be proactive, I pulled all 8 injectors and had them cleaned and tested at a local diesel injector and turbo shop. They all tested fine, but the number 2 injector had the lowest flow rate of the 8. Being it is a PITA to pull them, I just replaced the #2 injector.

After I put it all back together, it di not start. It tried a few times, but no start. I pulled the codes, and there was a P0232 Fuel Pump Relay DVR Circ Fail Off fault. I cleared it and ran the KOEO, and the fault was back. So, I checked there was power to the pump connector, and ther was. I pulled the pump and hooked it up to 12V, and it barely would run.

I put a new pump in it, but sometime after 2003, they deleted the fuel heater on the pump, so I only connected 2 of the 3 connections. I added some fuel treatment to it, and it started right up.

It seems to start easier, run quiter and more power. The pump was probably going for some time now. I also seem to get more boost and the trans is shifting good now. I need to find a way to wrap the extra heater connector. The dealer sells a new harness that does not have the extra connector for $18, but seems overkill to delete one connector.
