P0279 and P0281

Did some research on here, and just didn't come up with any good answers.

I changed injector #7 and had P0281 code prior to changing. Truck was billowing black smoke prior to the fix.

After the injector change, the smoke has completely cleared up. Drove the truck around like I stole it to purge the air etc. The truck still misses, has reduced performance, and is throwing a 279 and 281 code.

Checked the wiring and everything seems OK.

What should I be looking at next?

Any ideas are appreciated.

I did do the initial ficm test, and the output is exactly 48 volts. Was hoping it wouldn't be! This is frustrating as hell. Looks like a dealer visit.

On a good note ... the inside of the heads under the valve cover looks like it is brand new. I was impressed to see how clean it was. Maybe this is normal. I don't know. I guess changing the oil often does pay off.

Pulled the FICM. Took it apart to check for bad solder joints. Looked it over real good ... found nothing wrong. Put it back in. Played around with the wiring harnesses, and the connectors to the injectors ...

Truck runs fine.

Might have a wear spot someplace or something ... who knows. Tough to diagnose when everything is fine.
