possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

So I might get rid of my 2 trucks and consolidate. I have a 95 and a 01 7.3, both bought used with no warranty. If I buy a new truck, I'm ordering it before christmas, so it will be an 07 6.0. Question is..... What voids the 100k mile warranty on the engine and any other warranties that come with the truck? I've modded things here and there on my 2 trucks now, but never had to worry. All I would be doing is intake, exhaust, gauges, and a chip (probably a six gun). I lost my cat on my 95 and my 01 never had one. The 6.0s do though. Can they fall off too or does ford *****? Need some help deciding because I'd like a warranty, but i like doing stuff to my truck still and don't want to be stuck. Thanks. Dan

Don't buy 6.0 order the 6.4 with common rail injection.I've been told Ford will have them or take orders in Oct.

Re: possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

Go in without a cat and 99% of the dealers aren't going to touch it. Removal is a violation of Federal law after all.

As far as the tuner, some dealers are more "mod friendly" than others and will overlook things. That being said, however, if the repair is major it can go beyond the dealer for warranty approval. And you can bet they are not going to overlook the fact that you have a tuner. Ford is also getting a lot better at figuring out if you've had one installed as well. It all boils down to personal choice...I won't risk a $10-15k repair bill for power that I don't "need"

Ford got the intake right on these trucks, not all that much benefit there on a stock or mildly modified engine. But, should you install one and have turbo problems it's up to the dealer if it will be covered.

Cat-back exhausts...very few dealers, if any, will give you grief over that.

Gauges...as long as they are installed properly not a problem there.

Re: possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

Make's sense to me. That's pretty much what I wanted to hear. Who at the dealership should I ask about something like this? The Service Manager? I know the president of the dealership, but I'm not sure if he knows. My dad has a gasser and had no problem with changing the exhaust, they actually told him to in order to lose the gay pinging noise. From what I heard, the 6.0 doesn't benefit by losing a cat. I didn't know about the air filter though. Good to know. If I go with any chip, it will be a banks which I think is about the safest bet. As for the 6.4, screw that. Read about the truck and you'll realize its going to be a 6.0 all over again. I'd buy another 7.3 if I could, but they don't make them anymore. My 95 has held up better than my 01 in the body/mechanical department. Motor's are both perfect. Pretty sad. Wish they could get the quality back up. I just need a new truck with a new front end.

Re: possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

Siiighhghghhhh,

Why, oh why do people feel they have to "improve" a perfectly fine running truck with performance mods?

A factory delivered PSD w/ a 6.0 is tweaked, & tuned to run GREAT out of the box. What do you need a different intake, exhaust, and chip for? The truck will pull anything you can leagally tak onto it, and leave others in the dust doing it.

If you want a dragster, or a competion sled puller - mod away, just realize you have a specific type vehicle & be prepared to spend the money on it.

If you want a dependable daily drive that gets good economy, goes to work every day and does it with power - leave it alone. It dosen't need additional tweaking.

The only mods I'd consider is gauges. Factory gauges are a cost savings joke, as most people ignore them any way. If you want to take care of it gauges to monitor trouble areas, such as EGT, trans temp, water / oil temps & boost are about all you need. If you're REALLY towing heavy on a regular basis (day in day out), then maybe a 4" exhaust to help lower EGTs. Nothing else is needed

Coming from a 7.3, I can kind of understand the desire, as these NEEDED the enhancments to help an anemic motor. The 6.0 don't need it.

I guess WANT is another thing.

Re: possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

Yea, I don't need anything more than the truck gives either. Only thing I sorta wish was different mechanically is having it shift a little firmer. But that'd mean a tuner of some sort and I'm not doing anything to negatively affect reliability or warranty, so I'll live with it as-is. No biggie.

Early on I wanted a bit more exhaust note and dropped by my local dealer to ask about that. The writers and service manager said no worries at all with a system the keeps the cat intact, which was fine as I wasn't planning to remove it anyway. I went with a stainless full MBRP 4" system and was happy to read that guys have before/after measured up to 200 degrees difference in EGT, but it still sounds about the same as stock. LOL! Live and learn!

Anyway, I recently had a few months of downtime with some surgery and had sticky vanes afterwards. My dealer and FMC stepped right up and installed the updated turbo, no questions asked. I'm a very satisfied customer and continue to love this truck. In fact, I'm currently loving it for a few weeks on the road all over Colorado.

Re: possibly buying an 07 6.0, warranty questions

Just wanted to make sure if I go an install something i don't shoot myself in the foot. I have gauges to move over from my exisiting truck. After dropping 50gs on the truck, I won't have money for other crap until the warranty runs out (I drive alot). Then I'd buy a new truck. This will be my first new vehicle.
