Possibly trading 01 for 03

I am considering trading my xtra cab 01 w/7.3 for a 03 w/ 6.0 with the 4 doors since the kids are getting cramped. The 03 I am looking at was built in 01/03 and runs very well but I do not know much about the truck. It has 99k miles on it. The place that has it is the same place that I bought my 01 from and it has been great from 100k to the 145k it has on it now. I have the s/n for the 03 and was wondering if there was a way I could find out about dealer servicing and problems the dealer has fixed. Does anyone know if there is a way to find out about this?

Thanks

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03

The dealership that has it can/might print service work that's been done, and/or an OASIS report for you. If not you can request to get one here http://www.[censored].com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=97

It's just my incorrect opinion, and I know I'll be dully informed, but your 145K 7.3 probably has more life in it than the 99K 6.0

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03

With 99K on the clock, it is possible that someone who had experienced some problems with it may have dumped the truck before the 100K warranty ran out. Unfortunately, there were some problems with some of the 03 6.0's. Of course it could have been owned by someone who had no problems but just decided to trade it off for a new one with a new warranty. I would definitely ask for an OASIS report. An OASIS report should give you all the information you need.

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03

If you trade to the 03 6.0 keep your old 7.3 as a spare, I did and I drive my spare more than my new truck.

Seriously, when I bought my 04, the dealership wouldn't consider trading for my 95. Sure, it was in rough shape but it runs like a sewing machine. About the 7th time I dropped my 04 off to be worked on I mentioned I was glad they didn't buy the old truck from me so's I still had something to drive.

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03

The 7.3 no doubt was a stouter motor than the 6.0 for longevity

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03

Once you are certain about the history of the truck, I would recommend it. My 03 was running strong at 126,500 miles, I was just ready for an upgrade...

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03 Truck Info

I called the local Ford dealer with the VIN and they gave me some information over the phone about the truck. They also called the dealer which had done all servicing on the truck as well. Here is what I wrote down about it:
July 03 Lack of Power the dealer replaced the VGT and Turbo

Oct. O3 PCM

Aug 04 Check Hose Dealer replaced the Intercooler Tube

Aug 05 Oil Leak Replaced IUP (?) PIR (?)

Jan 06 Replaced Injector 6 and 7

The dealer who serviced the truck said they knew the original owner and said it was serviced regularly and would not have any negative thoughts about buying it.
The dealer who gave the information over the phone to me said they thought the things done to the truck did not seem bad and said they would not have any problems buying it either but for having the 2 injectors replaced they said sometimes that when one injector goes many times the others are right behind it.

Anyone have anything negative or positive with the history?

I have not even talked trade values or anything, I am just still pondering it.

Thanks for your comments.

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03 Truck Info

Get the information on paper so you can read it yourself. Then let the good folks here know what it says. I'm sorry, but I just wouldn't trust the dealer to "tell" me the whole story. Request a copy of the OASIS report.

Re: Possibly trading 01 for 03 Truck Info

A wholeseller has the truck and is not associated with the dealer that gave me the information. They are not even in the same city or county. So I have no reason to beleive the dealer who gave me the information and called the dealer that used to service the truck, which is in another state, would give me false information. The dealer just does not have any used F250 right now. The wholeseller is the same person I boutht my 01 from and he does not know anything about the truck. I still have concerns about what they said about the injectors. They are getting a Duramax in next week, and I guess I will wait and look at it although I do not like the look of the Chevrolets.
