Okay, I've been looking for some elc coolant to put in my 05 6.0. I seen some Prestone ELC at Wal-mart. It didn't say it was 50/50 though they had the 50/50. Anyway, it looked like the concentrate. I was wondering if anyone has tried it? Anybody know if its any good?
I guess it depends on which ELC you're talking about. Maybe I should say, the stuff in the yellow bottle that says extended life no. But if it is in a gray bottle and its not dexcool you should be fine. I've never seen anything but the yellow bottle at the walmarts I've been to, and it nothing better than the GO-5 or ford gold that comes in the trucks.
Thanks guys, I've never seen the Prestone in the grey jug. This is in a yellow jug and says heavy duty extended life coolant/antifreeze. I haven't checked to see if it was cat-ec1 rated. I'll keep looking for the right elc.

Hi,
I am the tech manager at Prestone. We make ELC and standard coolant for diesel trucks. The ELC (yellow bottle) you see is not suitable for your truck. You need the prstone ELC (black bottle, red coolant) or our standard HD coolant (black bottle, purple coolant).
Thanks Motorking. Where can I find this Prestone ELC in the black bottle?
Any NAPA, Orielly's, Advance or Autozone store can special order it for you. We are working on them to stock it as light truck diesel is here to stay. They say they want to see demand first. Let me know how it works for you, I do have some bottles sitting around here as well.

But does it meet the CAT EC-1 rating? You have yet to say if it does or not.
I love PEP Boys. Well, not really. Maybe just for a good laugh. Last one I visited, albeit very briefly, about 3 years ago way up west while driving thru Nassau County on the Sunrise Highway there were about 6 to 8 teams of customers working on their rice burners and mini vans in the parking lot.
Only thing PEP Boys could do better IMHO would be to rig up a coin operated lift or a pit in the parking lot
