Problems with 05 Tow Command, IBC, torque shift?

Just bought an 05 KR, 4x4, 6.0L Crew, with Tow command. After 1500 miles & my 1st long hauling trip, the torque shift went out and that was replaced. My 2nd long hauling trip was this weekend, about 6500 lbs. I experienced intermittent double shifting. When going up a hill, the tow/haul down shifts as expected. But when the trans feels it's good to move the next gear, it shifts twice. I don't think it skips a gear it just makes the noise of shifting twice and I can feel the shift twice. It also intermittently shifted hard. We also noticed a bunch of pink fluid coming out of the bottom of the truck, transmission fluid???

I'm also having a problem with the IBS, almost everytime I brake the IBC beeps at me, I've tried 2 different plugs(factory plug and plug in bed of my truck), using either, it intermittently beeps when I brake.

Don't ya love the intermittent problems? I'm nervous about going on another long hauling trip, which is insane for the $$ I paid for this truck that is supposed to be so engineered for TOWING!!!!

My experience with Ford is that they won't fix any problem that is not reproduceable, but I should not have to haul my horse trailer to their dealership with my horse in it and let them rack up 1000 miles on my truck just to see this problem.

Anyone else had either of these problems?

Havnt had any of your problems, I have 3000 miles on mine, have pulled a 7000 pound trailer a total of 500 miles, no probs at all.

When was your truck built? Just curious, with the tranny probs and all.

Sometimes that is exactly what has to be done. No, we don't like intermittent problems but they happen and taking extra steps and time to verify and diagnose the problem has to be done. I don't know any technician that owns a Chrystal ball. If the darn thing is operating properly, how would someone diagnose the cause?

I might suggest that you change your attitude towards Ford on the Tow Command System because from the sound of it, the system has been modified to add a second connector? From my experience, tampering by body installers and trailer dealers is the number one cause of problems with that system. As for the trans, heh, blame the dealer that "fixed it."

its been my experience that not being able to duplicate the problem and guessing at what is wrong only pisses of the costumers more

Re: Problems with 05 Tow Command, IBC, torque shift?

It was built 11/04. I had read one post that says the voltage output was changed out of the IBC, for trucks made after 3/23/05, my trailer has dexter brakes, maybe with the higher voltage from the IBC, the beeping problem will clear up.

I suppose I should take it in for the leaking problem and mention the other tranny problems.

Looks like your truck was a Job 1 build, I believe all the Job 2 trucks already had their tranny checked for the problems that were plauging the early 05's. As far as the controller I have had no problems with mine.

Re: Problems with 05 Tow Command, IBC, torque shift?

The techs are lazy (not all, but most), if they can reproduce it in the firt 5 mins of a drive it's "unable to verify" and the move onto the next truck. No trouble shooting at all.

If they would spend the time to trouble shoot , they'd have far more happier customers. They just want to get through the long list of 6.0 waiting for service. They don't care if they see the truck 4 or 5 times.

Then watch out if you reproduce it they give you the "characteristic of the truck", again just to get rid of the truck.

Days in shop so far 71 and counting as they still have it.

34K miles.

After spending a month in the shop and having it back only 2 weeks, it's back in the shop. Ford Customer service refused to send me a DSB Package. Told me the info is in the back of manual. Well truck is in shop and I don't have the info can you give it to me? No, it's in the manual.

most techs[not all but most] like to be paid for there time and since ford dose not pay for most test drives they tend to be real short
if the owner can duplicate the problem that sure helps

And I suspect intermittent problems frustrate the the good techs almost as much as the owners of the trucks!

Key point there! If you can make the truck "do it" then ask for a technician to go for a little ride with you, make it happen and point out what it is you are concerned about. When the truck does not misbehave on your road test then you might not get so annoyed with the tech or dealer - it's just not cut and dry sometimes.

If you have a video camera you can keep in your truck for a few days, wait till the truck does it and try to video it. That would help too.

Techs are getting paid by the hour at the dealership, not by the job. The dealership isn't gettting paid when the truck comes back 4 times for the same problem that some lazy tech couldn't be bothered with.

It's hard to find a good tech, easy to find lousy ones.
