Re-gearing

plan to re-gear my truck after my 37s go on. plan on a set of 4.56s front and rear plus some aftermarket diff. covers. had mag-hytec on my last truck(GMC) and it was a quality piece so i want those front and rear on my Ford. not sure what covers will work as some wont fit with aftermarket suspension. just wondering what ring and pinion brand to go with along with what gear oil and diff. cover brand. and any other recomendations on the install. thanks

I'd like to know also. It might not matter, but what year is your truck?

Randy's Ring & Pinion Lots to chose from. Some are for 10.25 others for 10.5 rears. If your going for a open or maybe a LS unit you shouldn't have much of a problem finding a set. If your looking to put a locker or a real LS unit, then the choices get limited.

Just had Yukon 4.56's installed and am told they are one of the best. I got them from TruckToyz which is a sponsor of this site. I was very pleased with the the price and service. Hope it helps.

That's not necessarily true. Gear selection depends on what the truck is used for.

regearing

I have 22's on 37's, went from 3.73 to 4.56, I will tow a toyhauler once a month.
If you do more towing, you can think about 4.88's, but the 4.56 work for me just fine.

I went with maghytec diff covers, big fins and hold alot more fluid. It came with its own dip stick

Depending on the model year and how your steering stabilizer is configured, you may have clearance issues with any aftermarket front cover. On mine, I had to grind down one of the fins to clear...

my stabilizers are side by side in front of the axle but the way they set they should not interfear with the front cover. i dont think atleast....i hope not. i think i will stick with the 4.56s and i would like to use the mag-hytec covers also.

Forget the brand but stay away from gears that 4WP sells, heard many bad things about them. Do your own research.

I like my 456 with 37's. Toyos are big and need the gears.

Being out of my comfort zone causes me to ask this question---How do I know what size R&P set I have? I have a 2004 CC dually with the 6.0L, automatic transmission, and 3.73 rear end. I would like to go to a 4.10 to get better towing ability.
