Rear Diff. Gasket?

I'm planning on changing my rear diff. fluid and want to know what type of gasket it uses. Is it reusable? Do you use permatex on it? Thanks

Re: Rear Diff. Gasket?

There's no gasket. Use high temp silicone. Be sure both mating surfaces are clean and the bead goes to the inside of the bolt holes. Install the cover within 15 minutes of applying the silicone and torque the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Wait at least an one hour before filling diff.

Re: Rear Diff. Gasket?

Factory recommendation is within 4 minutes of silicon application. About a 1/8th inch bead is plenty.

Re: Rear Diff. Gasket?

Do you have that many miles on it, or has it been "dunked" somewhere?

Re: Rear Diff. Gasket?

Only have 8000 miles on her but I'm taking my 2 boys on a cross country camping trip this summer(Philly to Montana) and thought I'd give the rear a fresh bath for piece of mind.
