Remove transmission first??

Im just getting ready to change my engine for a new one, and the third step on the ford service manual reads

"On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, the transmission must be removed before the engine can be removed"

Does anyone know why? Is this a true fact that must be done, or is it one of those "must pull the cab to pull motor" deals? can you get around it?

Thanks!

no it does not have to be removed they say this just to make the job easier wich it would if you remove the front rad support nuts and front cab mount bolts you can lift the front of the cab enough and place a 4x4 or 6x6 in front of the rad support gap to ease in clearing the input shaft we do this all the time at our shop and no issues

I do the same thing with engine removal (lift the front of the cab slightly). The reason they tell you to remove the transmission for manual trans. is because it is very difficult to line up the input shaft when reinstalling the engine. I just roll it back slightly to get it out of the way, but don't completely remove it.
