I replaced the ficm in a 2004 6.0 w/ 136K. got this truck when prev. owner got tired of it running like crap and the tranny went out. Anyway it had a p06011 code, would hardly start when cold and never overcame at least a cyl 3 misfire, and poss. a cyl 6.
I replaced the ficm w/ a used one from an 03. truck started right up when cold, but still missing, Auto enginuity showing cyl. 3 and 6 out. Also got a U0-something code, software incompatibility between ficm, pcm, and tcm, which didnt surprise me
hauled it to ford, they flashed so that everything was in sync so I could be sure which injectors to replace.. after flash truck ran exactly the same as after the ficm install, but no u-code anymore. did a balance test at ford on startup after flash... initially after startup cyl. 3 and 6 dead. after idle for 3 min, cyl 6 started to hit. after 5 min 6 was firing like the other 4 "working" injector.
the truck will start right up and die when cold, unless foot on throttle, then it will catch and run... cold engine will not rev above 1500rpms in neutral. after warm it will rev to limiter but is slow to get there.
No DTC's, but when I run KOER test I get cyl 3 balance/misfire
I'd say that ones done, my question is:
should i just replace all 8 It should be running way better than that even with only 7 cyl right?
I knew the guy who sold me the truck, it started w/ symptoms of ficm failure OVER 2 YEARS ago, but he just thought it was the nature of the beast
i've heard that a failing ficm will damage injectors... do you think this is my prob? anyone ever tried that detergent you put in the oil(forgot its name)
could it be something else like ipr or icp
it does surge some but it sounds like that is an injector that periodically quits and comes back
i know its a long post, hopefully i preanswered any questions you might have
any thoughts?
