Rotella T Question

I have used Rotella T 15w40 in my 2005 F350 Diesel and the dealer told me it will void my warranty if I use it! I can use Motor Craft oil and just Motor Craft oil. Is this true? I have used Rotella T for two years now. Did I hurt my truck?

Re: Rotella T Question

It did but looks like that thread disappeared for some reason, as did my earlier post to this one.

Re: Rotella T Question

I believe that there was a copy of a TSB somewhere on this site that listed oils approved by Ford. Since Rotella T is MUCH better than motorcraft oil, I wouldn't imagine it would void your warranty. I use Rotella T 5w40 and the truck runs great, both cold and hot. Switching from summer to winter oils and back again simply wasn't an option, especially when I didn't yet have 5000 miles on that oil change.

Re: Rotella T Question

Ask him if he is familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. If he is then ask him for your free Motorcraft oil and filters if he still requires OEM oil and filter be used.

Re: Rotella T Question

Yes you all did answer my question. It seems I woke up stupid yesterday and stayed that way all day!I forgot I posted the question. My local Ford dealer had my truck for four days and kept replacing my power steering pump three times before they got it to work. The truck had oil all over the frame and wheel well they never cleaned it. The front of my truck had fingerprints and oil all over the front end. For a nice clean truck they don't try to keep it clean. Then to give me Bad Advice this has me a little disgusted with them. This Dealer has worked on my truck for the last time.

Re: Rotella T Question

My local dealer does that too: The SA can be kind of a prick, and the techs leave dirt and fingerprints/footprints EVERYWHERE. The dealer I really like gives me the truck back cleaner than when I took it in. Which dealer do you think is going to get my business next??

Re: Rotella T Question

My ignorant ass dealer told me Shell was not a Ford approved oil as well! The diesel techs were blaming my diesel from the truck stops, my oil for what was an EGR valve problem. They told me truck stop diesel would hurt my engine etc.. I have picked up more water and brown fuel from local stations than any truck stop I showed them these pictures I took at a Fun Ford Weekend and told them to eat [censored]!

API certs are hammered in stone any court will uphold them Ford requires API rating CI-4 or higher in my 05 manual. I think Shell is up to CJ-4plus...

Re: Rotella T Question

As a former Shell refinery operator, where I operated ALL the units that processed Rotella T (and all their lubes) I can vouch for Shell's quality control and quality. It is as good as dino gets. I've used it in most of my vehicles, and use it now.
Motorcraft is simply contracted out to various refiners making sure it meets Ford's specs. Probably every major company's oil meets Motorcraft specs already.
Your dealer should be reported to someone for using deceitful sales practice. I don't know who to report it to.

Re: Rotella T Question

I was under the impression that as long as a particular oil meets the CI-4 and CH-4 specs that it's Ford Authorized... Seems just about every day someone posts another question about Ford threatening to void someone's warranty because of this or that... I had Rotella-T Semi Synth in my '04 when the motor blew due to a faulty fuel injector. My local dealer knew I had Rotella-T in the motor and never said a bad word or threatened to void any warranty and in fact replaced the motor under warranty. I think you need to look for a different dealer. And talk to the highest person in the service chain, not the Techs nor the Service Advisors as they all have differing opinions and not necessarily the official ones of that particular dealership...
