Rust in the fuel system??

I have an 06' F-350 w/6.0L Diesel that has clogged the fuel filter up with rust and wiped out multiple injectors. The trusk is only 1.5 yrs old and has 19K miles, how does this happen? Where does the rust come from?

The dealer says it is not warranty because it is contaminated fuel, but to think that much rust came from the fuel station everyone would be having the same promblems that fill up there.

The truck does have an auxilary 100 gal aluminum tank in the bed too. Locking gas caps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rust in the fuel system??

This is the 1st rust-in-fuel-system post I have seen and I have had a 6.0 since 2003 and been a member of this board for longer. If the rust were a Ford equipment issue we should have seen many many such post over the years and we have not. I would look to the installation of the aux tank, if fuel can be ruled out.

Re: Rust in the fuel system??

I have had quite a few customers with contaminated fuel related problems also requiring injectors. One of these customers had a bad rust problem so bad that rust actually collected in the bottom of the primary filter housing about an inch deep. He also had an auxiliary tank in the pick-up bed. Fuel contamination and all related damage is not warrantyable as stated.

Re: Rust in the fuel system??

Where is the rust coming from though? It is inconcievable that you could get that much from the filling station with out others complaining of the same problems. So again where is rust suspect of coming from?

Re: Rust in the fuel system??

Not from the truck. Tanks are plastic, lines are stainless, pump and filter bodies are aluminum.

Years ago I participated in fuel filter tests with my 7.3L and it was amazing how dirty fuel was coming from stations. I purchased fuel from a station that had new fiberglass tanks installed a few years prior and the fuel was the worst found in all the tests that were conducted across the country.
