I have an early 03 F-450, just turned over 12,000 miles with no problems. Get the VIN off of the truck, go to your local dealer and have the Oasis report pulled, it will tell you if you are looking at a truck with a history....good or bad........if it shows very little service history.......it is good
I would not take the risk. But I had an 05/03 6.0PSD bought back via the DSB process so I'm sure you understand why I feel that way. I was far from the only one, though. I guess you're already nervous about it since you're smart enough to ask the question. It's a crap shoot. Most of them are probably fine but you have to ask yourself if someone is just getting rid of their problems.
Will this engine have that high pitched whistle or not? I heard the early ones did.
The truck is from a marine being transferred from virginia to texas next week. I doubt He is trying to get rid of it but you never know. He says it still has the factory warranty on it. It has 24000miles.
Thanks.

Mine's a May build so I know I got the C95 injectors. No big issues with mine; I'd do it again. Like others said, the smart place to start is with the OASIS.
The truck is 2 years old, 24k, so the guy drives it ~1,000 miles a month - sounds reasonable to me.

I have a jan. 03 build, and I love mine. I was kind of mad when I lost the quiet idle, oct.03 flash killed that. I now have 26000 miles, running the predator since 16000. getting 17-19 mpg on highway.
I love the whistle mine makes with the muffler deleted. I have three brothers with 6.0s. one is an 04, and two are 05s. 15-16 mpg is the best theirs will do. I'll keep my 03 thank you!
Dave
I have an April 03 and I have 24,000 miles on it at the moment and on a 7,000 mile trip pulling my 27ft 5th wheel. I left California 10 days ago and I'm getting 12-15 mpg depending on the head winds or not.
Never had any problems. See below for my build date, etc.
I will have a total writeup when I make it back to California in late June.
Bye all!

I have a 5 03 build and love my truck. It has had no problems. It hasnt even been flashed. Its a 6 spd standard and I get 18.0 mpg average. I have yet to fill after a long highway run but I am guessing 21 to 22 mpg. Run an oasis report on it before you buy.

Go and get your truck reflashed, it will have way more low end power. It is like a total different truck.
