I have noticed a slight popping noise (intermitant) sometimes while driving and even sometimes at idle. It has a similar sound to the "thump" when you turn on the A/c. I drove 2 brand new ones today and one of them did the same thing. Mine is an 05 with 15,000 miles on it. Any ideas or similar experiences?
I drove 4 new 6.0's the last 2 days and if I didn't know better, I would say none of them were made by the same company or out of the same parts. I took the Ford guy for a ride and he didn't hear anything. Of course it would have been a FIRST if he had. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about. For some reason, NEW noises always make me nervous though.
Mine went in this AM for AC, front left hub, turbo hose, and funny popping noises. I am not sure if mine is the same but the word from the shop today is the "cab mounts". Not sure what this is and if they need to be replaced or adjusted. I hope to have it back tomorrow, but as of late today they had not resolved where the AC is leaking (put dye in) or what is causing the left front hub to engage on hard right turns. They said they would not replace the turbo hose that keeps coming off (it looks good and torque is correct) so I told them to charge me for new parts and replace the darn hose and clamps while cleaning the mounts good. Last time it came off I had the horse trailer in the fast lane cruising up a long grade along and bang nothing to do but start cutting traffic off as I smoked over to the right shoulder. My wife had to jump out for fear of soiling the X.

Here's a bulletin I found on a website about that issue. If you have an automatic, it could be this.
Clunk or Pop from TorqShift at 2-3 MPH:
A clunk or pop may be heard or felt on drive away after starting the engine, backing up and shifting to drive, usually around 2-3 MPH. This condition may be intermittent. It is the result of normal backlash (movement) between the splines on the low/reverse one-way clutch. Broadcast Message 1335

I listened again today. Turned the a/c off and it still does it. Some- times at idle, sometimes driving down the freeway. No real pattern. Sounds like a gas engine that has a slight backfire, but I can feel it in the floor. I am going to crawl under it tonight and see if something is loose. I love the truck but like I said anything that is a new sound makes me nervous. BTW, the Ford service guy said my 6.0 is absolutely the smoothest and quietest he has EVER heard!
