Well, according to the tech doing the work the truck is getting a new crate engine which is the final resolution to this particular episode. I am still trying to find out the details and don't know if the truck ultimately had a sudden failure or what symptoms were exhibited before they decided to pull the motor, but the tech said the long duration of the slow leak at the failed solder joint in the EGR/COOLANT heat exchanger caused pitting inside the cylinder walls due to chronic water ingestion. That statement made me think about the coolant leak issue.
