Something very interesting for all 6.0L owners to read...

I have been meaning to post this info since Friday but haven't had a chance until now.

A friend of mine called me on friday early afternoon to tell me that a friend of his saw a local tow truck towing a F350 dully with a gooseneck race trailer in tandem... It wasn't wrecked so he figured it had something to do with the 6.0L engine. It turns out that it went to my local Ford garage that my friends father ownes that called me about it.

A little while later he calls again to tell me that his dad just called him and he had additional information about the truck. It turns out to be a Roush Racing truck & trailer with Danny O'Quinn Jr. drives that was on its way to the Busch race this weekend in New Hampshire. He was supposed to be there by midnight friday and that wasn't going to happen since the HPOP is what went out on his truck. This is not the first time this has happened on this truck either according to the driver.

A few hours later my friend calls me back again to ask me if I know of anyone with a gooseneck hitch that can haul a 44' race trailer to New Hampshire? He continues to tell me that they can't get the truck done even though they stayed till almost 8PM friday to try to get the truck back on the road. It turns out that both myself and my friend has a gooseneck hitch, but he was in FL and I was in WI so neither one of us were able to help out.

We were able to find out that Roush Racing in a whole has 61 of these trucks and ALL of them have the 6.0L and ALL of them have had problems like this specific truck.

I just don't understand why Ford would put a motor out like this that has all of these problems. I mean just this example alone did not allow the actual race car that was supposed to be in the race yesterday, they ended up using a back-up car for the race. That just doesn't say much for Ford at all. I'm almost in the same boat since I have my own business transporting cars and my truck must be dependable to get the customers car to them when I tell them its going to be there. I am a Ford lover especially sine myself and my parents own 11 Fords currently, but I am about to change from my 2006 F550 especially since I am going to try to get them to buy it back because of all the problems that I have had with my truck.

Just thought you all would like to know this info. I will be going in the morning to the dealership to get a couple of photos of the truck & trailer.

Re: Something very interesting for all 6.0L owners to read...

I bought a diesel because I wanted a truck that last 300k miles without any major problems. I tow my race trailer around alot,I bought a ford because I have heard by alot of people that fords pull and handle trailers best. I believe that they might handle the best by the fact that it lasting 300k miles is very hard to see. I have 93 Chevy 2500 350 that just turned 200k and I trust it more than my ford.

04 f-250, lariat, crew cab, fx4, sb, 43k miles.

Thanks for the valuable info: I just put all 12 of my Ford diesel's up for sale. Gee what will I replace them with that is trouble free? My Dodge diesels's have each gone through a transmission so far and don't tow nearly as well as the Fords. Maybe I'll buy Duramax and take my chances, but I will hate to part will my 04 Ford, which has had no down time what-so-ever in over 2.5 years. Hold on, there goes my cell phone: it's a friend of mine calling to let me know that he just saw a Duramax sitting by the roadside with the hood up. Now I can't buy Duramax. Only thing left to do is sell the business and move to Fiji.

You have had problems with the newer 48RE tranny? That goes against typical experience that most have with the Newer dodge trucks. The 47Re was a weak tranny but most agree that the 48RE is a solid unit.

Re: Something very interesting for all 6.0L owners to read...

Guess I better find out how much a classified ad is in my local newspaper. Too bad you had to write that story as my 6.0 has been the ONLY vehicle I've ever owned with zero problems during the 1st year of ownership.

Please post back with a trouble free replacement option so I'll know what to buy.

p.s. Don't tell me Dodge because my last one of those went through a lift pump, 3 trannies, an exhaust manifold, a head gasket, a water pump, cracked dash in 2 places, blown right infinity speaker and a host of other small things that are not uncommon for those trucks.
