My truck does the same thing and it seems to do it more when it's hot. Not sure why but I don't think that it is bad.

General consensus on the 6.0 is that the noise is the turbo spooling down. Yes I know it sounds like it has bad bearings or whatever but my '06 has done it from day 1and there have been numerous posts over the years from others who hear the same noise.
My '04 did it all the time, my '06 does it once in a while. With their high compression, I think the engine does come to a fast halt, and all the other spinning accessories cause a "chirp" on the belt. I'd consider it normal....

As BigCreek said, the high compression of this engine (and I think the 6.0s compression is actually lower than the 7.3s - someone correct me if I'm wrong) can sometimes cause a sudden stop of the crankshaft, while the inertia of the belt and accessories tries to keep the belt going. Basically it's a little slip of the belt across the crankshaft pulley. It's nothing to worry about, however, it would be wise sense to have a spare NEW belt on hand when you get some miles on your ride. If it's gonna break, it will do it when you're in the middle of BFE, and that could be one heck of a towing bill!!!
Also, as jbd said, there will also be this rattling sound coming from under the hood (and at the tail-pipe) that sounds like the turbo is just bouncing off of the housing. This is supposed to be considered normal, but I too would like to know why it actually does this. Just drive with no worries!!!
I have an 04 6.0....when mine was new I had the belt chirp...Ford replaced the belts twice before Ford came out with an updated belt....mine no longer chirps....check with Ford they may have information on it....mine has the dual alternators....

just oil the belt real good and it won't make a sound.
No don't oil your belt, i was joshing you. my old 6.2 did the same thing and that belt lasted my 50000 miles.
If you put some liquid dish soap on your belts it helps also. It is also way better than any belt dressing and you probably will never change a belt again. Just put some in your hand and rub it on the belt no need to worry done it a million time on a million different vehicle and I have also never change a belt on any vehicle.

you may be hearing the belt tensioner kicking back to the rest position. they tend to move a little more than the 7.3L's if you watch it while someone revs it up.
