I don't know what has happened, but one of my rear brakes has become a squeaker. It is driving me nuts. There is plenty of pad left all the way around. There are only 21k on the pads, and I thought it was a piece of grit or sand I picked up camping one weekend when it was rainy, since that is when it started, but in almost 6k miles, it won't go away. Like I said, plenty of pad, and the rotors are as smooth as the day they were installed... no scrapes, grooves, or marks. Anybody dealt with this before? Is there some sort of cleaner I could run across the rotors that would clean the pads without taking the pads off? The way I see it, if I am going to take the pads off to clean them, I might as well put on better pads while I'm at it... any recommendations?

Mine has squeaked almost since the day I drove it home. I've had the dealer check it out three times. They say the brakes are still perfect (as of about two weeks ago) and they couldn't reproduce the problem. Mine squeaks when you apply light pressure to the pedal, such as when you are slowing down for a stop sign well in advance. Once you put more pressure on the pedal, it goes away. It's pretty loud too and sort of embarassing to have squeaky brakes. I try to ignore it now, or just keep the radio louder.

Squeaks like this (only under light pressure) are because the pad is loose. many foreign cars have a small sprimg between the pads to help prevent this. In any case, it can usually be fixed by applying some Permatex 'disc brake quiet' or similar to the back of the pad. This basically 'glues' the pad to the caliper.
The other thing you can do is take the pad off and use a file to bevel the leading edge.
