Standard Maint. Items for 6.0

A co-worker recently purchased an 05 PSD. He was asking me about my truck (00) and I started telling him things he may want to check, parts to have on hand, etc. Then I realised his truck has the 6.0. What are some of the typical problem areas to pay attention to on the 6.0? For example the 7.3 has issues with the CPS. I don't even know if the 6.0 has one.

Thanks
Peter

Re: Standard Maint. Items for 6.0

I carry a set of fuel filters in case I get a load of dirty fuel, oil filter so I never have to use a "Will Fit" (which won't), spare fuses and a bottle of Ford centane/perfomance enhancer. Also carry a quart of motor oil and a quart of Mercon SP Transmission fluid (The mercon SP is a must as Mercon compatible fluid is not compatible with Mercon SP) Tools include a metric socket set, cresent wrench, pliars screwdrivers and heavy duty booster cables (to start other brands). (Never had to use anything to fix the truck)

Re: Standard Maint. Items for 6.0

Run the truck at operating temp REGULARLY. Exercise at least every 2 weeks. Run it for about an hour to get it warm & fluids moving. The turbos are finicky and like to be exercised so they don't rust up.

Regular maint. good oil ever 5 to 7k. No problems.

Re: Standard Maint. Items for 6.0

Might want to add a coolant filter. I hear those will usually prevent most EGR issues if not all of them.
