Surge with transmission slamming in gear

Had this problem for the past two days and the truck is at the dealership this morning. 05 350 psd, When coming off exit ramps on the pike and starting up the truck will shift ok into first then when going into second the RPM shoots up to two and slams into second gear. Did it to me yesterday only this time while going into third. I watched the RPM go from one and shoot up to two and slamed into third. I guess you call this a surge?? Its like its missing then gets into the gear. Its an automatic and looking for any insite from anyone on this. As I said its at the dealership this morning.

Re: Surge with transmission slamming in gear

this thing really puts out the torque at around 2000 RPM, doesn't it? It is no accident the gearing on mine results in max torque at 70 MPH . Easily could break a motor mount if the tires grab.

Re: Surge with transmission slamming in gear

I had similar problems last year and it was sticky shift solenoids in the trans. causing the problem.
My dealer changed them all out as they have been a problem for them with trans issues.
Everything worked/shifted great afterwards.

Re: Surge with transmission slamming in gear

My 05 just started doing the same thing from 2nd to 3rd. It felt like someone hit my truck when it shifted. I turned off the Hypertech programmer and it stopped. Let me know what the dealer says. I called Hypertech and I am bringing in my in-line controller so they can check it out also.

Re: Surge with transmission slamming in gear

Picked the rig up later in the day and the service guy said the tec recalibrated the transmission. So I went out to talk to the tec and he said that is what they did was recalibrated the transmission. He went out with me to drive it and it shifted fine and the slamming into gear was gone. I did notice that the RPM now was up at two grand when it started to shift and it was smooth this time, no surge or anything. So will see how it goes. I am new to this so I asked a lot of questions as in is this like a flash etc. And I guess from what I gathered it is sort of. But so far it is shifting into gear ok.
