tach and speedo not working right...

this has happend a few times and I would really like to find a fix! after crusing for a while the tach will show about 500 rpms lower than what it should be...come to a stop and it will show 0 rpms. and the speedo was way off doing 75 mph according to gps the truck shows 40mph...***! if I pull over and shut the truck down and restart everything goes back to normal.

any ideas?

truck is a 05' f250 fx4 psd cc sw lariet 52,000 miles

yesterday I drove 150 miles and it did it about 50 miles from home but after the restart it didn't happen again even was fine on the return trip...

thanks!

My 07 had this problem and they had to replace the instrument cluster. It is a common problem although I am not sure what years were most affected.

just as I described?

It hasn't done it to me since I first posted this a couple months back...That is with a few long trips too. I was hoping my problem is gone but i'm sure it will come back at some point...

I wonder if heat has anything to do with it? it has cooled off alot here in Socal in the last few months...
