Less than 2000 miles on my new King Ranch and noticed a 3 inch crack in the sidewall parallel to the wheel rim. Anybody else had this problem? Does anybody know how to read the "born on" date on the sidewalls? No abuse, other than regular highway driving. Definitely a crack, not a slice.

What brand of tires are they? My 2004 came with BF Goodwrench tires and at 20,000 miles they are showing little wear. At 2,000 there should be no sign of wear.

I had this problem with a set of tires on my 85, turned out it was due to underinflation. I will keep an eye out on my new tires. I just bought a 05 King Ranch cc 4x4 srw 6.0psd last Saturday. Paid too much and at these prices can't afford to buy tires!

My 03, came with B.F.Goodrich Rugged Trail's
I've got 63,000 miles on em and I'm thinkin that I'll be in line for some new rubbers very soon.
Q: What stock size tire would you guy's (girl's too) purchase?
Q: Why does Ford reccomend 70psi in the rear and 55psi in front?
(Oh Yea, my truck is a single rear wheel.)
I'm partial to B.F.G.'s and may stay with them but am interested
in what you folk's think about the other major brands.
(Oh, one more thing: I WILL NOT CONSIDER FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONES!)
They definitely sent defective tires to the Explorer plants!
I'll never purchase those brands again...

Your tires are usually covered by the tire manufacturer's warranty and is done thru an authorized dealer for that brand of tires.
Your dealer can tell you where to take it and it sounds like a defect that should be covered.
Good Luck.

the born on date is the last 4 digits of the dot code the first two are the month made and the last two are the year. the cracks your describing maybe torque cracks take it to a continental dealer in your area and they should be able to help you. If you let me know where your at maybe I can steer you in the right direction as not all dealers are the equal.

Or maybe FORD just under inflated them? The same tire used at the proper inflation worked fine for every other manufacturer Except ford due to UNDER INFLATION. Is it a coencidence that the very next year for changed the design of the Exploder? I dont think that firestone is exempt, but I do think Ford has some liability as well. Sorry all for the hijack but this rumor has to stop some where.

If my BFGs continue to wear like this I'm replacing them with BFG's, but going up to 285s. Stock 4x4 with 285s looks great in my opinion.

To everyone, especially cam76034:
I appologize for Highjacking this thread, I simply got lost in the
tire thing when I started to remember how the "Firestone" issue affected the "EXPLODER" sales.
Gee guy's, I'm sorry if I sounded like I was leaning on Ford's side
for once!
I just saw my business at the St.Louis Assembly Plant go from "great" to
"straight into the Toilet" because of that particular part of Firestone's history.
I guess the Firestone 500 tire that pontiac put on their car years ago was'nt the manufacturers fault either huh?
Just remember, Ford did business with Firestone for 99 years and ALSO
had Firestone's married into the Ford family too!
If you've never set foot into a Automotive Assembly Plant, please dont try to tell me what I've seen first hand.
I will leave it alone now, And again: I'm sorry.
