Tons of oil out my exhaust

What all would be possible for my truck to lose everybit of oil out the turbo and thru the exhaust. It quit making boost and started smoking insanely bad from no boost and 15qts of oil flying out. Long story short i couldnt just leave it where i was so i added oil and limped it a few blocks. Worst thing to do but I seriously had no choice.

Re: Tons of oil out my exhaust

Well, I assume your turbo is bad. The oil that should be squirting on the bearings to cool them is leaking out, thus the oil in the exhaust. As far as no boost: Do '03s have the variable vane turbos? No oil pressure to the turbo would mean the vanes don't adjust, thus no boost.

Re: Tons of oil out my exhaust

I'm wondering how it ran. No oil pressure means no fuel delivery correct?

Re: Tons of oil out my exhaust

Ran like crap when the oil was about all gone. It died about 5 times in the last 75 yards, and would take a few seconds of cranking each time before it would fire. It was uphill and almost there. I watched the oil pressure gauge and it was good the whole time but there was barely any oil in it when i parked it. The entire underside and rear of my truck is covered in oil, its nasty.

As long as there is oil being pumped into the HPOP reservoir, the HPOP will build injection pressure.

Re: Tons of oil out my exhaust

Make sure that if it is the turbo shaft seal that had failed. If that is the problem, be sure to check the intake piping going from the turbo to the air to air. If there is any sign of oil in the piping you should probally remove all the pipes and the intercooler and pour some degreser in the cooler and then take it to a car wash and clean it out really well with hot water. If you don't do this and there is any oil in there when you put the new turbo on and put a load on the truck the engine may run on the oil in the cooler. The engine may then overspeed and parts will come out of places they shouldn't. Some times you will get lucky and the exhaust seal will only fail.
