I think just make sure your hubs are in auto mode and esof switch inside is in 2wd mode and remove the driveshaft to the rearend. Do not try only on my recommendation though, this is just what I would do. Someone who has actually done this might pipe up some info.

Yes, but take off the driveshaft. You don't want to be turning the transfer case with power to the input shaft. Same goes for the tranny. It is a bit heavy to be towing, but why not??

Thanks for the info. guys guess i will need to trailer it or trade for a manual 4w.d. shift as opposed to e.s.o.f. so much for trying to avoid a trade-in

Have you thought about pushing your motor home with your truck ??

What about swapping out the front hubs w/ fully manual aftermarket types & leaving the esof to acuate the transfer case? Strikes me that might make it do able & would be cheaper than trading the truck in. Or, How about a tow dolly, & only leaving the rear wheels on the ground? Rob

Rob i thought about putting in manual hubs. but was not sure about how that would affect transfer case actuation. i will have to check into that. iwas trying to avoid a trailer but if push comes to shove the tow dolly would work well.

Changing the hubs should work as long as you remove the rear driveshaft to tow it. Otherwise you'll be buying a new transfer case and/or transmission if you flat tow.
Check out my avitar. I tow my F350 behind a large diesel pusher. However, when I ordered my 03 I ordered the manual hubs/transfer case so all I have to do is put the manual transfer case in neutral and I'm good to go. Towed 10,000 miles just fine.
The key to towing here is not to allow the transmission to turn with the engine off. The transfer case will be lubricated without the engine on so you are using the transfer case to disconnect the drivetrain from the transmission/engine. The ESOF setup on Fords do NOT have a neutral position. The old explorers with ESOF could have a neutral position programmed in by a Ford dealer for the RV community so it could be towed. However, there is no programming trick available for the F350 ESOF to provide this.
If you can't find my avitar, just look in the photos and use my username as a search. You will find a pic of my combo. I get a lot of comments about it. I've been towing various F250's and F350's for the past 10 years now.

If you pull both drive shafts, and the front hubs are unlocked...I'm not seeing how you couldn't tow it...nothing is turning but the wheels and axles...actually, you can wire the front shaft up, and never fully remove it. The trans will need no lubrication because its NOT TURNING...I read the manual, but its full of B.S. info. This should be do-able if your not afraid of getting a little dirty...maybe 15 minutes to unhook everything, tops.

Yah, if you pull both driveshafts there's NO problem. Only thing is most people don't wanna pull driveshafts. With the manual transfer case, you only have to put the transfer case in neutral and you're all set for problem free towing.
I've pulled my 03 about 10,000 miles behind motorhome and pulled various F250's and 350's since '96 models with automatic hubs.
You just need to keep in mind that these are HEAVY vehicles to tow and you need a motorhome that is both capable of pulling and stopping them. You also need a towbar with a high enough capacity. They used to be hard to find but now they are easily available.
