Tranny Filter?

I am getting ready to service my tranny and I'd like to know if there is one filter or two (is there an external?)? Are they available from Filter1? What do they run?

Re: Tranny Filter?

One filter, most have the 4wd deep pan which requires a 4wd or deep pickup tube filter. I like the OEM of transtar brand filters. The Transtar is a 73800 or 73800A one is 2wd one is 4wd. The only diff is deep pickup tube.

Re: Tranny Filter?

what kind of torqshift do you have???

The tranny should have two filters. One is inside the transmission pan, the other EXTERNAL is a cartridge type (looks like a roll of TP) located underneath, in front of the engine towards the passanger side. It is a silver/metallic round "container" (has lines coming and going to the tranny cooler) that can be unscrewed to reveal the filter.

good luck

BTW: go to filter1.com......they have cross references with WIX brand filters and will even show a pic of what they look like.

Two filters, one pan. There is no 2wd or 4wd pan for the TorqShift.

Re: Tranny Filter?

just called filter1 and they can't tell me what I need for my tranny exactly. They said that I need to know if I have a 4R100 or a 5R110W tranny..... and from there information they couldn't tell me about the external filter. Any help please.

Re: Tranny Filter?

With the 6.0 engine ,you would have the 5R110W, the 4R100 was only available with the 7.3 engine and early 2003 was the cutoff on that option. Your pan filter only needs service at 100K, the inline cartridge every 30K, make sure you get the right fluid.

Re: Tranny Filter?

When you go to the Filter1 Website, there is a link to WIX filters where you can cross-reference part numbers. They (WIX) can match your year, make, model, engine, and tranny and will list all of the filters they make for your vehicle. Most will also have a picture of the filter. Good luck.
