Tranny not shifting very well.....help!

I have a '04 F-250, 6.0 PSD, and the Torqshift auto tranny. Just today, the tranny doesnt want to shift from 2nd to 3rd....the RPM's go up to almost 3,000 and I have to let off the pedal for it to shift; when I let off, it shifts smooth...??? It almost acts like its in tow/haul mode; just that braking feeling like it's holding the truck back. I cant figure it out...if I try to put the hammer down, it just hesitates and doesnt want to shift into 3rd from 2nd. Anyone that can help with this little problem, your input is appreciated!

Re: Tranny not shifting very well.....help!

You said it goes up to 3,000 and hasn't shifted.... Are you talking about it revving up to there (like it's in neutral)?? If so, then yes you have a problem.... If on the other hand, you're talking about it continuing to "pull" up to that point, then you may not have a problem at all, depending on how hard you're in the throttle....

How long have you had the truck?? If it's relatively new to you, I would suggest you go to a Ford dealer and drive a new one for comparison purposes.

If you find that it shifts different than a new one or you have had it a long time and it's now acting goofy, then I would suggest you go to your dealer, have a tech ride with you and show them what you're talking about (if you are under 36,000 miles). If you're over 36K, then it's your call on who to take it to...

Re: Tranny not shifting very well.....help!

It has 66,000 miles on it...and it has never done this. Had it for almost a year now, and when i'm goin down the road it shifts from 1st to 2nd fine but then when its time to shift from 2nd to 3rd, the RPM's go up to around 3,000 and it doesnt wanna shift and acts like it is in the tow/haul mode and i'm going downhill???? It just started to do this today....

Re: Tranny not shifting very well.....help!

just thought I would inform everyone of the problem. The truck started to puke out, losing a large amount of horsepower and torque, almost like it wasnt getting fuel. I replaced the fuel filters, and it runs great now. All it needed was new filters. Thanks for the input teamroper60!
