trans fluid change - silly question

So I am doing a simple drain and refill. I have read it is about 8.5 quarts doing it this way (no flush). I don't see anywhere to pour the new fluid in like the engine oil has. Am I supposed to pour it down the tranny dipstick hole?

Thanks

Check this video out. I like Bill, he is funny and has helped me previously with anything I asked.

Liked the video but it makes me wonder about my dealer .
When they do a tranny serice they don't take off the pan . they hook up to a machine that pulls out the old fluid and puts in the new fluid ,same way they do the coolant service. Don't think they even change the frame mounted filter . Does ford require their dealers to do service a certain way , or do they not care ? Any techs care to fill us in ?

I'm really starting to trust you guys on here way more than my dealer !

In my opinion the right way to service the TorqShift trans is to flush the fluid with a heated flush machine. The external filter should be changed, but there is no reason to drop the pan or change the internal filter unless there is something wrong with the trans.

That's my opinion, you're welcome to have a different one.

I'm not a tech, but I have an opinion.

Ford cares, but they don't own the dealerships so all they can do is to recommend what to do. They can't MAKE the dealer do it certain ways.

FWIW, some of what powerstrokehelp.com has to say is good. At the same time, there is a lot of misinformation contained in so many of the videos. I wish no ill will on anyone.... but "luck" should not be a factor.

Once the initial fluid fill has been replenished in the trans. the shift lever should be moved through ALL positions and the fluid level checked with the trans in park.

It is when someone has trouble spelling Mercon SP while they are holding the labelled container in their hand that I start having concerns.

After your doctor has given you an injection is not a good time to find out he is dyslexic.

Of course, after something has gone wrong, we have plenty of time to b!tch and moan.

I am an absolute dink.... and my customers are happy because of it.

Make sure you use the correct fluid. Ford is the only maker of the correct fluid for a torqe-shift tranny

I don't like it, but I don't have any data to back my position, either. I prefer the flush method.
